I know a number of people who come into Total Wine around the holidays to buy for beer exchanges. It sounds like something that is comparatively (to an advent calendar) inexpensive and a change of pace from a cookie exchange. The booze advent calendar is definitely cool, I just think it becomes more of a chore.
When people tell me they cant get into The Wire I ask them if they’ve watched Breaking Bad. They usually respond with yes so I tell them The Wire is slow to start just like Breaking Bad but just gets better and better as it goes. I equate the two because I do honestly think they are ranked 1 and 2 of the best TV shows of all time. The 4th season of The Wire prepped me for teaching in my urban school district, it was so real and that’s why I love it to this day.
I agree, people always look for excuses. I just commented with excuses the two times I stopped drinking for extended periods of time. Accountability is something that I have been working on a lot the last year. I am getting better but I am not where I want to be yet. People need to be open to being called a mental midget because people are too nice to each other when they fail.
I almost completed Sober October last year and when I was 22 I went through most of Lent sober. I had a wedding last October that I had to drink to get through and during Lent years ago, a friend had his 21st birthday a week before Easter. It is doable when you do it with a group of friends but near impossible when you are the only one doing it. I regret nothing and I did feel better overall but I was never a big drinker anyway.
My first college had one of the best equine programs in the nation so I knew a whole lot of horse girls (and boys). I hooked up with two horse girls when I went there and they checked at least 2 of the 3 above stereotypes. I enjoyed both of their company but they were just a different breed of girls, no pun intended.
Over 150 years later and Southerners still want to talk about the Civil War. It must be the same reason Cowboys fans still talk about all of their championships from the 90s. Hold onto that past!
My fiancee hates Halloween but still makes us get very cheap Halloween costumes. Our first Halloween she was pretty mad at me because we didn’t go to any Halloween parties and I refused to dress up as anything because I was firmly in the “I hate dressing up for Halloween” camp. Only a few times since then was I so blindsided by a fight with her. I finally understood that she hates Halloween because it is expensive but she still likes the aspect of having a cute couple costume and will not miss out on the opportunity. Talk about mixed signals, man.
Hey Nick, I just wanted to let you know I binge read this entire series the past 3 days and I am glad I did. Keep up the good work, I enjoy this series immensely.
I don’t know what happened just now but I will continue my above thought:
Sun Chips USED to be amazing. They were a new and delicious chip that broke up the monotony of regular chips. Somewhere along the line they were no longer appealing nor delicious. I had a bag of the french onion for the first time in many years and it gave me awful heartburn. Never again, Sun Chips need to be put out to pasture.
I teach two male students named Noel and they both pronounce it NO-L. They’re both Latino so I think the pronunciation depends heavily on people’s backgrounds. I also had two Joels and one wanted it pronounced Joe-L while the other wanted Jo-ul.
One commonality of teaching and having land with your S/O is that the common lesson of “clean up YOUR stuff” doesn’t apply. I will be cleaning up my classroom no matter how much I hound my students just like I will definitely have to do the OUR dishes when I get home, even if I cooked or not.
Everyone seems to agree that ghosting is awful but making sure you don’t do it to others and teaching others not to do it too is of paramount importance.
I am a teacher too, I picked this profession, we make the same salary and until recently I had a part time job after school. Spending your money on take out pizza 3x a week isn’t a government issue nor a state issue. It’s just fiscally irresponsible to spend money on take out and complain that it’s the government’s fault I don’t have money for more take out.
A teacher I work with brings a lunchable or leftover Domino’s along with cheetos/chips and a soda every day for lunch. He told me today that after his paychecks he usually only has $3 in his account. He should not be teaching anyone anything with that kind of reckless behavior.
Also, best lunch for me in high school was $1 beef and cheese burritos. A little hot sauce and I was in heaven.

Great article to start the day, JT.

I have only watched one episode so far but I am not too impressed. I will give it another episode or two and see where I am with it.

$50 is very steep but Lauren is an angel on earth. Who is opening? I’m a rare concert goer who goes to see the openers.
