All the research you needed to do on whether a law degree was worth it or not was talk to any current attorney about what the market was like for new lawyers. My father is an attorney, wanted me to do law school my whole life up until around the time I went off to college, and told me I’m better off going STEM because he could get away with hiring newly minted lawyers out of U of Minnesota (respectable school) for under 50k. That’s not an attractive ROI. Period.
So, quit blaming society/wall street/everyone else for your poor decisions.
Im sure youve had plenty of time to do research as a typical unemployed lawyer. Probably shouldve done it before the fact. Guess what? I work in the hedge fund world where if you dont produce results, youre toast. Game over. But i do have somr advice for you and your liberal arts majoring bretheren: i prefer paper to plastic (its better for the environment)
This guy has it right. Caitlin rises some good points about the previous generation being debt crazed idiots, but whining about the past gets no one anywhere (the south cant get over the civil war, look where its gotten them).
As for liberal arts majors/lawyers on this site flipping the proverbial burger…..talk shit all you want just dont spit in my fries.
Never said I did anything by myself. I didn’t. I got where i am by a combination of lucky factors and hard work. Sue me (im sure there are plenty of unemployed lawyers in their parents basement who would love to).
If you took a major in a liberal arts degree thinking oh i could just go to law school and ill make money, clearly you did no research on the current labor market for new attorneys (regardless of what year you graduated, its been shit for awhile). In my business people who dont do their research get snuffed out and no one feels sorry for them).
So, yeah, you can whine about how you went to law school and dont have a job, but guess what, your parents are doing more for you by letting you live with them than mine ever did.
I have a STEM degree, I’m 24, own four properties, work in finance, and have about as much sympathy for my whining contemporaries as I do for the unions in detroit who are about to lose their pensions.
Not my fault you believed unquestioningly what your coddling parents/teachers told you. If you don’t like your situation, start a business, you’d be surprised what you can do with a pickup truck and craigslist.
Thank you pickwick, for literally proving every stereotype out there about our generation. Bravo.
