So I agree with this article’s takes and I give a full thumbs up to Taylor. However the survey itself was kinda skewed.
The data analyzed showed millenials “tip less” on average for wait staff. While that statement is kind of true, what it doesn’t take into consideration is the average millenial doesn’t have the same charges as older generations. The survey included tipping on postmates, ubereats, etc., as well as food trucks, and retail square machines where there is much less incentive to tip, or rather tip “appropriately”. Since millenals use these often we have more lower tipping charges. Older generations that only go out to restaurants don’t have their number brought down by food delivery services or non-traditional eateries. If you looked at just tipping in sit down restaurants or traditional tipping situations, millenials actually tip more than the older generations.
The average gratuity is also brought down because it included all tipping situations. Again, millenials use uber and lyft far more than people older than 37. When you include a bunch of $1 or $0 tips our average is brought down compared to older generations who wouldn’t use the app to begin with
Don’t order martinis “shaken, not stirred” please. It chips the ice, dilutes the alcohol content, and messes with the flavor/texture. Martinis are supposed to be stirred.
