What makes a great bar? Rather, what makes a great postgrad bar? Great prices, good enough food (or no food at all), great happy hour, a classy decor or a place that looks like the dive bar to end all dive bars. People’s tastes in bars vary in their 20s and your preferences change from night to night. Do I want to throw a blazer on and order something that costs more than three dollars? Or do I want to put on a t-shirt and jeans and blackout like it’s freshman year?
Which bar should you be going to in your city?
These aren’t ranked in any particular order.
Bar: Little Woodrow’s
Where: West Sixth Street – Austin, TX
What: A big ol’ patio bar right in the heart of downtown Austin with a ton of beers on tap, turtle races every Saturday and an awesome Mon-Thu Happy Hour.
Drink: A tall, cool bottle of Lone Star or Austin Beerworks Peacemaker if you’re down with the whole IPA thing.
Food: Food truck on property called One Taco. Get the Gringa and steak taco.
What is this, Bleacher Report? Please don’t start with the slide-shows…
I think we can safely work under the assumption that a Senate intern submitted Mad Hatter as a “best postgrad bar” in DC.
Hahahaha this^
How about a top 5 PG bars for most major cities? I’d read that.
In the works.
Don’t leave the twin cities out next time guy.
Just go hang out with the lovey dovey assholes on Hennepin Ave and shut your mouth. But seriously, just go anywhere in Edina for the views, screw the bar.
I live in Edina.
What kind of knuckle sucker picked Barcito of all the bars in Chicago as his favorite? I’ve had better happy hours in the parking lot of a Walmart…
That’s why we put Chili’s on here. The great equalizer.
The day complimentary chips and salsa stopped, i died a little.
Spot on. The Beer Bistro in Lincoln Park on the other hand is a great place with tons of different beers on tap.
You should include an option to view this all on one page.
They get more page views (and thus more money) out of doing it this way. That’s why sites do that billshit, but I guess it pays the bills
Been to 5 of them and can’t disagree
That’s impressive; you must get around.
Agreed, I’ve been to most of these cities and haven’t hit a single one of these places.
+1 for Olive or Twist in pgh. Best cocktails in town.
West Alabama Ice House in Houston
It’s getting shut down. Condos going in. F’ing progress man.
The Butcher Shop in Wynwood, Miami. Get a liter of any of the fine craft beers on tap for $10, or $5 during happy hour. The name tells you all you need to know about the food…there’s an actual butcher counter in the back. Beware, however, of Wynwood’s “hipsters.”
Yes, South Florida has some great ones. Blackbird Ordinary, Radio Bar and Purdy Lounge are very good in Miami / Miami Beach.
American Social, Tarpon Bend and Royal Pig in Lauderdale are great too.
THANK YOU! I was wondering where Florida was in all of this. Wynwood has great bars. And there are so may great tiny places and micro-breweries. The Abbey in Miami Beach is one of the latter and sometimes the owner will roast a pork Cuban style and give it to patrons for free! Also, Rosie’s in Wilton Manors has an amazing vibe and is alot of fun and they make the strongest drinks at a great price (this is a gay bar).
And the Fort Lauderdale dive bars- I can’t even remember the names, but I remember the beards and the tattooed hotties with huge chests playing darts.
Pretty good list as far as Texas goes. I lean towards Black Friar Pub and Renfield’s, though, for Uptown Dallas.
Gotta stop and ride the bull at Trophy Room too
