One of the hardest things I had to do working for FOX Sports was keeping my cool when you run into all the star athletes. They tell you that you are media, and not a fan. But hey, when your childhood hero Chipper Jones is standing right by you waiting to take batting practice, you take the opportunity to get an autograph 100 times out of 100. You never know when the chance will arise again. Sometimes people get a little star struck.
For Snoop Dog (Lion? Seriously, what is he calling himself these days?), he got a little star struck at SXSW when he ran into a Texas State Trooper, Billy Spears, running security at an event. So Snoop did what any fan would do, and asked to take a picture with the guy. Billy agreed, and Snoop dropped the picture like it was hot on his Instagram:
Seems harmless, right? Wrong, Billy is in trouble for agreeing to do so. Apparently you’re not allowed to take pictures with people who have been convicted of drug possession multiple times.
From The Guardian:
A state trooper has been reprimanded – and will be required to undergo counselling – after posing for a photo with Snoop Dogg at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, because the rapper has several convictions for drug possession.
How dumb is that? It’s not like Snoop was slipping him an eight-ball or a joint. They weren’t sipping gin and juice in the picture, so what’s the problem here? Some people just don’t want anyone to have any fun..

This is such a cliche thing to say, but what the hell happened to freedom? A guy on duty can’t take a photo with a celebrity when he passes by?
I don’t know. Snoop didn’t appear on the PGP Friday playlist often. Damn it, I miss those playlists.
Welp. Replied to the wrong comment.
Counseling in the military is like a written reprimand. I’m sure that’s what the cops mean, too.
Yes. In the military a “counseling” is the equivalent to being “written up”. It’s just a paperwork trail.
