Finally, after months of blistering cold across the country from an extended winter, the flowers are beginning to bloom and the sun god is blessing us with warmth and melanin once again. Spring is here, so it’s time to drop the cashmere sweaters and North Face jackets and get seasonal. Now, let’s not get crazy, we’re still about a month or two out from Hawaiian shirt season, but 70 to 80 degree weather is ideal for the summer blazer.
You no longer need the navy blue wool blazer. Get out that light, beige, linen-cotton blazer, throw on a pair of jeans and Ray-Bans, and start day drinking mojitos and margaritas like it’s spring break in Cabo. Remember, if we don’t properly celebrate the arrival of spring it will get cold and dreary again. You must not anger the sun god or he’ll punish us all. But I digress.
The summer blazer is just light enough to keep you cool in direct sunlight but just heavy enough to help you withstand a breeze. It is the perfect dressy-casual spring garment next to maybe a seersucker suit and a mint julep for derby days. It’s comfortable and at the very least makes you look well-adjusted and well-employed, even if you aren’t.
I’m no fashionista. Trust me, I’m regularly reminded of that by the women in my life ranging from my mom to my girlfriend, but I’m hard-pressed to look in the mirror wearing a well-tailored summer blazer and not like what I see. Except for the excess winter insulation, of course. It’s just a simple, good look, particularly in the sun, with palm trees in the background and a drink in your hand.
Speaking of linen, while you’re at it get some linen bedsheets for a good transition to nap time after a long day of drinking before heading out again for more. Spring and summer are about linen, light colors, and drinking outdoors. I do know that much.
As I previously said, I’m no fashion expert. I’m not here to give actual, actionable advice, although you should probably have a summer blazer in your closet already. I’m simply pointing out that summer blazer season is the best time of year and to get your fill while you can, because we’ve seen how dreary an extended winter can be. So, while the crazy ones are out there already waiting for sweater season, just remember that you have a better look and you enjoy better weather and that pitcher of margaritas right next to you is a damn better drink than anything the winter has to offer..

For the millionth time, they’re called Aloha shirts. And that season is year-fuckin-round
This is something I can get behind
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, Jim
It sure is
I prefer to call them “Dad on Vacation” shirts, but yes that season is year-fuckin-round for sure.
come to DC in July and walk 5 blocks and tell me again how much summer blazers rule
That’s why you are supposed to get out of town when Congress goes into recess.
Men in blazers really get me going
Currently in a blazer sup
Sup.
The only think a blazer in the Houston summer heat gets you is sweaty and “look at this douche nozzle” glares from everyone
They’re projecting.
Sounds fantastic but if I put on a “light” blazer in 80 degree weather I become an actual sweat factory (sexy, I know).
Disagree. All that does is make me sweat more than I already do during the summer.
