Game of Thrones further asserted itself as one of the most popular shows on television Sunday night when it’s Season 6 premiere drew an audience of 10.7 million people through HBO’s premium cable channel and online streaming services. That figure doesn’t account for the likely untold amount of people who streamed the episode through other means, driving the true amount of viewers even higher. The show is a cultural phenomenon and nothing can distract fans from tuning in as soon as new episodes air. Not even the inescapable pull of pornography.
The porn industry is huge and loads of people watch it on several different websites daily. If you’ve ever seen any of the viewing trend charts or user statistics that PornHub, one of the biggest porn sites on the web, has released over the years, you’ll know there are few things in life that stand stiffly between people and their pornography. Game of Thrones, however, is one of those rare exceptions.
Per Deem Geek:
Game of Thrones, not just one of the most popular shows on television, but one of the most popular shows in history, has on Sunday once again confirmed its impact on the world! Incidentally, on porn industry… as it happened, the online porn consumption has decreased by 4% on Sunday. And if you think that 4% is not significant, think again!
PornHub, one of the 60 most visited porn sites in the US, has released a statistic showing that 4% in terms of numbers is actually millions and millions of visitor a day! How about that for a 4% decrease?!
As impressive as the size of the decrease in traffic on Pornhub is during the Game of Thrones
premiere, it’s really not terribly surprising. Many people want to watch the show as soon as it premieres so that they can either talk about it with fellow fans, read up on episode analysis, or to avoid falling victim to spoilers on social media. The show also has the advantage of regularly showing boobs, genitalia, and sex scenes in its episodes to go along with dragons and killing, so it’s not like that portion of the audience is completely missing out on their titty fix.
Being separated from porn for over an hour is hard, though, so traffic on PornHub begins to pick right back up where it left off starting when the episodes end. Unsurprisingly, the search results center around Game of Thrones characters and actresses:
Another interesting fact and another interesting graph shows that immediately after the episode, the most searched on PornHub are GOT related videos! Indeed, searches after the premiere on Sunday went up as high as 370%!
Care to guess which character(s) is mostly searched for on PornHub?
Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, is the top search. Rounding out the top five after sweet Khaleesi are Natalie Dormer (Who plays Margarey Tyrell), Sibel Kekilli (Shae, the prostitute Tyrion Lannister loved), Lena Headey (Cersi Lannister), and Carice Van Houten (Melisandre, aka the Red Woman. Which, after the last episode… Woof). Sibel Kekilli actually might yield a few different results since she used to actually be in porn, but the rest of them might not have anything besides their nude scenes in Game of Thrones. But maybe the others do have some good stuff floating out there. Personally, I know nothing about it other than winter really is coming for a lot of people and that it’s bringing a lot more happy endings than the show has so far. .
