In what has become a sort of rite of passage for postgrads inclined for thoughtful creativity, a guy using the YouTube username ‘Joseph Ann’ shared his hidden-camera, well-thought out “Will you marry me?” play-by-play that surprised the shit out of his girlfriend to the point of tears. Unfortunately, though, these tears were not of joy, but rather of “Are you fucking kidding me?”
That’s a tough one, pal. Joseph’s master plan for the out-of-nowhere proposal involved turning a routine McDonald’s drive-through visit in typical street clothes into an engagement ring being carefully placed on top of his girlfriend’s McChicken — an elaborate plan that obviously required much preparation in advance. According to the video description, it was an inside joke between the couple that she would end up getting engaged at a McDonald’s.
The plan’s rubber meets the road at the 1:45 mark of the video, and by 1:52, it’s not hard to tell from her horrified reaction that Mr. Joseph Ann will not be screaming “I’m Lovin’ It” with her any time tonight. For the next 100 seconds, the girlfriend forces an awkward laugh while spitting out only gibberish and broken sentences to her hopeless romantic McDonald’s chauffeur, who apparently is still in denial about his humiliating rejection. Bless his heart.
As Michael Scott once said, it takes a big man to admit his mistakes. In this case, though, the it would be more fair to say, “It takes a really sexually unsatisfied dude to share to the world his life’s most embarrassing moment.” The dude even included in the video’s description — his only YouTube video ever published, by the way — that they’re still together and have “agreed to wait longer until it’s time to get engaged.”

Geez, if her dad heard about the plan beforehand and didn’t say anything, I’d guess it’s because he doesn’t like the guy very much and was hoping this would finally do him in.
