Following a national news-making free burrito campaign to makeup for the chain’s nightmarish E. coli-related news to start off the year, Chipotle just announced that their efforts to win back customers are not done. According to the chain’s website, Chipotle will be offering free chips and guacamole (repeat: “and guacamole”) to all customers with any purchase and registration of the new “Chiptopia” card beginning July 1.
Chiptopia, the name of Chipotle’s new customer rewards program, will likely extend those overly-long 12:30 p.m. strip mall lunch lines even further out the door for the rest of the summer with its enticing incentives. For each calendar month through at least the end of September, Chipotle will reward its Chiptopia users with one free entree per every four entrees bought, a rate that elevates to one-after-every-third entree beginning on the third cycle. I love Chipotle as much as the next guy, but if the eight-for-the-price-of-ten deal isn’t already enough faux Mexican food for your 30-day period, then you might want to consider branching out on your diet choices a little bit.
For better or worse, it looks like Chipotle is still reeling in their reputation from that nasty E. coli outbreak. The previous too-good-to-be-true burrito giveaway cost the company $40 million, according to a report.
Ok, Chipotle, we forgive you. You have officially won America back. Yes, the line outside the door for some of your free chips and guac will be outrageous, but there’s no way I’ll turn down such a generous offer. Even though the rewards program is a bit on the gimmicky side, I’ll undoubtedly take five minutes out of my life to get one of those trendy new cards.
Seriously though, that line on Friday will probably be an hour-plus and make me miss my 1:00 meeting. Time to start coming up with creative excuses..

Excuse #1: Explosive hot snakes. Pro—Believable because you’re eating at Chipotle. Con—You’ll probably get the hot snakes, because you’re eating at Chipotle.
Freebirds>Chipotle so meh
Considering their guac was one of the main culprits behind the E. coli debacle, I’m gonna have to pass, but appreciate the offer.
