I can’t say I didn’t see this coming, but here it is: an app for women to hail taxis, which are also driven by women. Starting in the very near future, SheRides (LOL) which is also called SheTaxi, because girls love to have two names for the same thing, duh, will launch as the first female-oriented transportation app. The idea came from Stella Mateo, whose husband is the founder of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. Shocking, I know. Ladies can use an app on their iPhone (sorry, Android losers) to hail one of these special taxis.
Now, it seems slightly ridiculous, but upon further review, it’s not the worst idea. There are few things creepier than making awkward small talk while wearing hot pants or what have you in the front seat of a cab with a male cabbie. By “awkward,” I mean extremely, physically uncomfortable. And yes, I always have to ride shotty when there are four of us. I’m that girl. When I read about this app, I took a second to think just how sketchy it is that we voluntarily submit ourselves to a paid ride by a stranger who is (presumably) significantly more sober than we are. Then again, wouldn’t it be kind of hard to get away with drawing and quartering me at 2 a.m. on a Saturday in the middle of New York City? I don’t realistically know and I don’t want to. I hope the taxis are pink!

I want to see accident statistics to this vs any other taxi
Man. Equality sure is cool.
Men-only taxis would be sued in a second. #YesAllWomen
I didn’t think cabs in Ny could be any more frightening than they already are.
Can’t wait for the competitor SheDoesTrunkStuff. Could be a big battle.
Another small victory for feminism. Yawn.
This is literally one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard.
I am also starting a taxi cab company that caters only to white people. Because every one knows how awkward it can be riding with someone who may not have even been born here.
