Over the past several years, there has been a food truck revolution. Considering a brick and mortar restaurant is ridiculously expensive to open and the economy isn’t exactly booming, people have resorted to opening food trucks with unique spins on popular classics. Surprising everyone, the food truck fad has been wildly successful, and a lot of the food is actually pretty damn delicious. It’s gotten to the point where some cities have opened their own food truck parks with benches, tables, and even live music. That said, we polled our “Grandexperts” (just some corporate humor) on their favorite food trucks.
Here are the best food trucks in America.
Munchies (9th Street Deli)
Where: Indiana, Pennsylvania (but only late night on weekends)
What: Subs and cheesesteaks
Order This: Either the Italian (which is a cheesesteak with sauce and pepperoni) or the Longacre (a cheesesteak with chicken fingers).
The Grilled Cheeserie
Where: Nashville, Tennessee
What: This place serves a specialty grilled cheese of the week, and it also has a “build your own” grilled cheese bar with a variety of breads, cheeses, and fixins.
Order This: An applewood smoked bacon and pepper jack cheese grilled cheese on sourdough with a Coke in a glass bottle. Maybe get some of the specialty pudding of the week for dessert.
El Guapo
Where: Campus Martius, Detroit
What: Tacos, burritos, and bowls
Order This: The greasiest burritos around. That is a compliment.
The Halal Guys
Where: New York, New York (five locations: main/original location on 53rd and 6th)
What: Halal street meat sandwiches and platters
Order This: The chicken over rice with peppers and onions. Ask for extra white sauce. I’m not quite sure what the hell they put into it, but it’s something women are actually willing to swallow. This is the undisputed best drunk food in New York City.
One Taco
Where: Austin, Texas (two locations: Little Woodrow’s on W. 6th Street, Midway food truck park)
What: Tacos
Order This: The Gringa, chicken taco, and chips and queso. Always queso.
East Side King
Where: Austin, Texas (three locations: E. 6th Street behind Hole in the Wall, South Lamar, Roaming)
What: Asian fusion
Order This: Poor Qui buns.
Calbi BBQ
Where: Santa Monica and Los Angeles
What: Asian fusion tacos
Order This: The Calbi beef and pork tacos. Get it spicy, smothered in Sriracha.
Bon Me
Where: Boston (three locations: City Hall Plaza, Dewey Square, Harvard Yard)
What: Vietnamese
Order This: The cilantro peppercorn chicken in a rice bowl.
Momogoose
Where: Cambridge, Massachusetts (Kendall Square)
What: Asian
Order This: The ga nuong (it’s lemongrass chicken).
Also, for every meal sold, the food truck donates a meal to the World Food Program-School Meals Initiative.
WOW! Food Truck
Where: Atlanta (either roaming around or at the food truck park on Howell Mill Road)
What: Southern barbecue
Order This: All the food is good and all the sauces are good, but the best is the WOW! Factor Bowl: 20-hour smoked pork over a bed of stone ground cheese grits topped with barbecue sauce and chipotle cream sauce. Heaven on Earth.
The Blaxican
Where: Atlanta (either roaming around or at the food truck park on Howell Mill Road)
What: Mexican and soul food fusion
Order This: The buffalo chicken tacos and Mexy mac and cheese.
Jerusalem Café
Where: Kansas City, Missouri (Westport, outside of Harry’s Bar & Tables)
What: Mediterrenean
Order This: the gyro and fries.
Hattie’s
Where: Milwaukee
What: Sliders and desserts
Order This: The barbecue pulled pork slider and some cheesecake pops. Yes, cheesecake pops.
The Fat Shallot
Where: Chicago
What: Sandwiches
Order This: The buffalo chicken sandwich. Get it messy and smothered in buffalo sauce.
Red Hook Lobster Pound
Where: Washington, D.C.
What: New England-style seafood
Order This: The Maine lobster roll: fresh lobster, lightly dressed in lemon mayo and served on a buttery roll. It’s more than worth the $15 price tag..
Bon mi blows. Just crap “food”
I live in Nashville and The Grilled Cheeserie is nothing special. It only has hype because the food network has been there a few times. You can make a better grilled cheese at home. There are way better food trucks in Nashville!
Kind of hoped to see an OKC-based truck since OKC hosts one of the largest food truck festivals in the nation.
The Blaxican’s collards quesadilla is heavenly.
The Philly nachos are damn good, too.
Jerusalem cafe fucking blows.
Koi Fusion, Portland. Nationally acclaimed:

You guys need someone out here.
2 Fat 2 Fly in Columbia, SC. Stuffed chicken wings -the one stuffed with jambalaya rice and smoked sausage is great, and they have a loaded baked potato one that has potatoes, bacon, cheese, chives, cream sauce. A high/drunk person’s dream.
When I think food truck I’m thinking something I can eat with my hands. But Blaxican sounds tasty as fuck.
