Thursday night was Fight Night on Mackinac Island, a small resort island located in Northern Michigan. John Yob, who works for Rand Paul’s political campaign, took to Facebook to say that he was punched in the face at a bar by Rich Beeson, Marco Rubio’s campaign manager.
A huge Republican political gathering on Mackinac Island got under way Thursday night with a barroom incident in which a top official for presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio allegedly threw a punch at a Michigan consultant working for Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.
The alleged incident took place at Horn’s Bar, a popular nightspot on Mackinac Island, which hosts the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, which is held every other year and has drawn six GOP presidential hopefuls this year.
Man, what a classic night on Mackinac Island. For those of you unfamiliar with the island itself, it’s perfect. They don’t allow cars on the island (only horses), I’ve commonly referred to it as “The Vegas Of The North,” and it’s the future destination of my bachelor party even though I’m not engaged. Now can you see how some Republicans may find themselves in some scrums up there?

So, uh, yeah, you could say people go hard in the paint once they touch down on Mackinac Island. Yob found this out firsthand and explained what happened.
“I ran into a guy named Rich Beeson, who frankly I didn’t even know who it was at first because he isn’t relevant in our political world,” Yob said. “He literally physically assaulted me by punching me in the face. The state police are looking for him. I have it on video, from multiple angles. This will play out in the national media in the next few hours.”
An officer at the Mackinac Island Police Department early Friday would neither confirm nor deny that the incident took place. He said there would be no comment until the chief of police arrives at the station later this morning. Beeson did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.
All I can say is that I’m glad I wasn’t on the island last night because I’d be waking up this morning wondering whether or not I had anything to do with it. Last time I went to Horn’s Bar, I got in a tussle with a guy because he accused me of stealing his umbrella. Sure, we sorted things out over some vodka-waters and eventually hit the dancefloor for Van Morrison’s “Gloria,” but still. On second thought, that may have been Marco Rubio’s campaign manager.
Either way, Yob is effectively calling for Rubio to fire Beeson immediately. .
