Quick, what channel on your respective cable/TV viewing system is VH1 Classic? Oh, you don’t know? That’s not surprising, because who the hell watches VH1 Classic? But soon, the answer will be (or should be) everyone.
That’s because on August 1st, VH1 Classic will be re-branded as MTV Classic and start airing all of our old-school favs, including Daria, Run’s House, Beavis & Butt-head, Pimp My Ride, Cribs, Jackass, and Punk’d. That’s right, friends — all of the shows you loved to watch on the channel that supposedly was for music videos are coming back!
The station will kick off with “MTV Hour One,” which is the very first hour of programming the original MTV aired when it launched 35 years ago on the same date. Then, according to Bustle:
MTV Classic will be moving into a full-on walk down memory lane, with The TRL Decade, which takes a look at all the years of that old chestnut Total Request Live. And it doesn’t stop with that first day of airing; MTV Classic will devote different days and time blocks to all the varieties of programming that they used to have on offer. For example, primetime blocks will be mostly given over to animated classics like Daria, classic reality shows will air Monday through Thursdays during the late-night hours, and Fridays will be dedicated to music shows, with the airing of the best-of MTV Unplugged, including some episodes that haven’t seen the light of day in years.
Additionally, weekends will be devoted to marathons some of our favorites, such as The Real World and Laguna Beach.
