For most of us in the states, today is payday. And while Friday is always a little bit better on days when that direct deposit hits, there’s a small part in our brain (at least for most of us) that thinks we should be getting paid WAY more money for the bullshit we have to put up with day in and day out. So I can’t really blame Stephen Burke for spending roughly £28,000 on cocaine, booze, hotel rooms, and a brand new car.
Burke is a construction worker who was expecting a paycheck for £446.60, but because of a misplaced decimal by somebody in payroll he got a check for £44,660.00. If I was in this guys shoes I would have done the same exact thing. No way I’d roll back into my boss’s office and be like “Hey, man, I think somebody paid me too much money this week. Let’s remedy this.”
If I got paid 40,000 dollars too much on my next check, I’m probably buying a regal ass wooden cigarette boat, a shitty lakehouse in Northern Michigan, and taking whatever’s left and putting it all on black in Vegas. The fact that Stephen Burke is facing jail time for this is despicable and I personally think the judge should throw out all charges.
Any human put in this position would do the same as Burke. No one has any morals, despite what they may tell you to the contrary..

He’s got upper management written all over him.
44,000 pounds is actually $57,000 USD. Even with the shitty post-Brexit fx rate it is still pretty sweet
Also, that means he spent $36k USD on coke, booze, etc.
If that was me, I would invest half of it in mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Sadulach who works in Securities.
You could get a gently used ski boat for 40k, not sure about a wooden cigarette boat…
I wouldn’t have taken the money. I don’t want any of those filthy pounds, I only accept freedom bucks.
