I would think that while the goal is to build a strong community here on the site it’s also to add more people to the sites user base.
Instagram and Twitter are easy ways to drive traffic to the site and add more people to the community. Look under any given post for PGP, or another relative publishing company, and you see people tagging other people. That probably drives people to investigate PGP more and add to the user base after they check out other content.
The article comments have always been where the most engagement is if you keep up with the site and that doesn’t seem to be declining. So if you’re able to add more users on the site through Instagram and Twitter, then you have more of a community in the comment section via new users and following interactions.
Holding those photos and videos strictly on the site wouldn’t seem to make a lot of sense to me given the publishing platforms and the ability to reach an infinitely vast amount of people and get them engaged in the site.
But idk that is just a guess because I don’t feel like doing anything at work today either.
