Both great in there own rights, but Smash is superior because of the variety of things you can do in the game. Mario Kart is a one trick pony (albeit that works) that you play over and over again.

For all those curious, I won the Super Smash Bros N64 tournament, kicking some ass as ya boi, Fox. Representing the PGP community.
