I began reading TFM as a freshman in college in college in 2011 and transitioned to PGP when I graduated. Checking this site multiple times a day is the only thing that kept me sane my first year post grad. The grandex community has always been a family and I will always appreciate that.
Having work friends is a great way to get in trouble at the office. You will inevitably end up visiting with them too much and not working enough or saying something that gets around the office. I just think work friends are too much of a liability. I’m friendly and pleasant with everyone but I don’t hang out with them after work.
I’ve been using Buck knives for as long as I can remember and I think they are just about the best bang for your buck. Quality steel, American made, and they’ll last forever.
I’ve found BigLaw is the worst about this. Smaller law firms generally have the decency to communicate with you. But a lot of the bigger firms simply don’t give a shit.
Bow ties are really a regional thing. I used to live in SC and VA and everyone wore them. In TX you’ll get laughed at and everyone will think you’re a prick.
Unless you work in-house for a finance company (I used to be at Fidelity) then you should be fine. I don’t believe that outside counsel has to abide by those rules.
Terrible advice from MayDay here (no offense). Don’t get in a fight – this isn’t the 50s. The consequences are much worse now. Just tell the bouncer. No business wants to become the kind of place that has a reputation for letting that shit happen.
this is so true. Everyone is fighting tooth and nail to have the wonderful privilege of working themselves into an early grave while surrounded by a bunch of socially incompetent assholes. I gave up worrying about that shit a while ago.
I got a little champagne lesson from the guy at Specs the other day and apparently Veuve is garbage. He actually stopped me on my way to check out with a bottle and was like “don’t buy that shit.” I never knew the world of champagne was so complicated but now I want to learn.
Absolutely. Give them a taste of their own medicine. Having recently gone through the law firm recruiting process, my bitterness towards the way employers handle hiring is at an all-time high.
Not having cash used to be my go-to excuse for getting out of that awkward situation. But now the ones in Dallas have started getting crafty and carrying Square readers.

Side note: I have had the jambalaya pasta at TCF and it is absolute trash.
Another confirmation for good measure.

Leaving on Monday for my honeymoon so this weekend will be consumed by frantically packing and hoping we don’t forget anything important.
I always thought it was customary and polite to at least offer to have the BIL as a groomsman.
The original patent for toilet paper holders has the paper going over and towards you. Case closed.

I 100% support this Duda take.
I guess it just depends where you are. Dallas home prices have gotten out of control and skewed my perception a bit.

The real question here is how is your mortgage only $1,275?
