The problem for a new competitor is the barriers to entry and necessary scale for profitability. Austin is one of very few large markets that Uber and Lyft have left. So pursuing a strategy of entering the markets they exit isn’t enough and those companies could return at any time (See San Antonio). Additionally, entering a market as the 3rd competitor and the new guy is going to be very challenging.

The problem is not one of infrastructure because little is required. A company would create their algorithm for matching potential jobs to drivers, which is mostly based on long established GPS tech. Then the company rents some servers and storage to handle the traffic and they can scale up from 100 drivers to thousands. They don’t need huge capacity initially because the limiting factor is drivers which takes time to build up along with a good rep with customers.

Uber and Lyft left Austin because their strategy is to exit any market that requires finger print background checks. This policy is not due to the market becoming unprofitable, but rather a strong arm tactic to dissuade a mass change in local regulations across the country and force cities like Austin into changing their regulations. This is a key time for both businesses because if they are unable to stop the trend toward stricter regulations, they would lose some of the large competitive edge they currently enjoy over Taxis. Although you can bet your ass Uber and Lyft would find a way to pass most of the higher cost onto customers and drivers. Requiring finger print checks from people who are responsible for other’s safety every time they “clock-in” is not an absurd request or regulation. I’ve had to do finger print checks for jobs going back to my high school days. The cost is not unreasonably higher; finger print checks are much more difficult to trick and provide a more comprehensive report of the employee’s driving history, which is uh…kind of important. Also, just think, a sexual predator who definitly wouldn’t get past a finger print check could slide through whatever cheap ass checks Uber does and then be allowed to pick up drunk girls/guys on a nightly basis. This isn’t a fight over burdensome regulations killing profits and crushing a young industry. Both companies would still have a large competitive advantage over Taxi’s and earn strong profits. Its just greed and laziness. Another possibility is Uber and Lyft cut corners on their in-house checks to save costs and are concerned what could be revealed about their drivers. Either way, don’t let these greedy fucks fool you.

I thought the only true rule of succession was pretty clear by now. All that matters is who can back their claim with force, not who has the “better” claim. If you don’t believe that, see the Boltons, Lannister inbred bastards, Stannis’ dumb ass, Robert’s rebellion, Dorn, and Dani’s newly established rule across the narrow sea. If Danaerys has 3 dragons, the unsullied, and the entire Dothraki hoard, then legitimizing Jon would actually make a lot of strategic sense, assuming he has a decent army. Why? For several reasons. Adding a powerful, yet weaker ally to control the North and act as the first line of defense against the Walkers is a great start, especially since he is well suited for both. Extending the Targaryen blood line, which is pretty important considering a grand total of only two exist (according to the show) is another nice benefit. Also, if Jon does have Targaryen blood, then he has a decent shot of becoming a dragon rider. Since Dani has two extra dragons that aren’t doing shit, adding a dragon riding relative-ally that commands an army but has no desire to take the throne (and wouldn’t have the power to anyways) would be absolutely ideal. Dani would eventually need Jon, and his new dragon, to lead the fight against the Walkers as well. For Jon, the offer would be a no brainer. But who could negotiate such an alliance and act as a badly needed bridge of trust? Well, Dani’s new advisor Tyrion happens to have a previous relationship with Jon and Sansa was treated well by him in a difficult situation. Basically, if Jon really is Rhaegar’s son then their alliance is a foregone conclusion. Come on Ned, think a little outside the rigid rules that don’t exist in Throne’s reality.

“I am the horn that wakes the sleepers”, is not referencing the horn that can take down the wall. That would essentially be saying “I am the thing that will destroy this wall” in the your life-time oath to defend that wall at all costs. No one even really believes that horn exists and neither of the important horns have been mentioned in the show. That quote is clearly a reference to something almost every Night’s Watch member has done for the last several hundred years. Which is literally standing watch, at night, and blowing a horn to alert everyone else that either rangers are returning (1 blast), wildlings (2), or walkers (3).

The school where I did my MBA had a dual program for engineers to begin their MBA during undergrad. Their seemingly endless ability to believe they were the smartest person in every room was almost impressive, except for the fact they really didn’t understand the business side.

That’s great advice in theory, but in practice you are either a relaxed type of person or you stress on even small shit. Trying to get the stress type personalities to chill the f out is a constant challenge. That being said, if you aren’t happy, make a change. I just quit a 6 figure job to start my PhD in the fall and I’ll now be getting a whopping 25k a year to live on, but fuck it I’m 27 and get another 4 years of college. Friends and family called me stupid, I call them lil bitches for not doing the things they want.

Sons of Anarchy just goes to absurd levels that make me unjustifiable angry after a few seasons. Mainly because it could have been so much better. Or maybe it’s because I’ve seen how crime drama is done perfect in the Wire. Top 5 on any list despite the fact 10 years later everyone gushes over it ad nauseam.

Your basketball credentials are weak. Any list like this that doesn’t have Rasheed Wallace (Shaq? Really) on it is not credible. The guy set the record for most technicals in a season with 38, then broke it with 40, and broke it again at 41. Next closest? Only 23. They changed the T rules cus of him. He’s the degenerate Wilt. A few more of his accomplishments: most games thrown out of in a season and career, quickest ejection- just 88 seconds after checking in, multiple Marijuana arrests or failed tests with the Blazers while dropping 20 and 7 a night, once got tossed just by staring down a ref relentelessly, routinely heard yelling trash talk on live broadcasts…There’s a lot more.

Playing in competitive games and wanting to win makes sports fun. Have you ever played rec softball with a decent team and destroyed everybody? Gets old after a couple run-rule shortened games. If you cant be competitive without being a dick, maybe you’re just a dick.
