My mom is a big concert goer and took my sisters and I to all kinds of shows as kids (like my first concert was Garth Brooks at a local fair playing on a flatbed trailer while I was dancing in a diaper) and is still what we do as a family activity to this day. I wasn’t really introduced to classic rock until high school but went full throttle and have seen several of the greats from that genre as well as country, including some that have passed in the last few years. I will cherish those memories forever.

Although it was obviously not the same without Merle, I thought Jamey Johnson did a fantastic job covering his songs when he took Merle’s spot on the bill. He had Leeann Womack come and sing Silver Wings and I was nearly in tears it was so beautiful.

  • IdgieThreadgoode 7 years ago on Selling Your Car Is Like Saying Goodbye To An Old Friend

This hit me in the feels. My dream car as a kid was a Dodge truck and I got a 2000 Ram 1500 in ’07, the summer I went to college. I put that truck through wrecks, major part replacements, several speeding tickets, my grandma driving me around for a few months in it due to said speeding tickets, many disastrous parking attempts and fails, a random act of vandalism that left permanent swastikas in the paint, and many jumped curbs. It was in pretty rough shape when I sold it this spring with 250k miles on it. But that truck took me to my first trip to college, graduation, several moves, tailgates, road trips, breakups, makeups, jobs, field parties, major cities, lake roads, gave me a place to sleep, change, sing, think, my dog a big seat to lay in and consel to sit on, and everything in between. I made my mom do a photoshoot before I sold it to a friend to use as a farm truck. Visitation rights were in the contract. I’ve already spent a lot of time and miles in my nice new(er) SUV, but it’ll never be the same. Glad I’m not the only one who feels that way. (Sorry for the novel)

  • IdgieThreadgoode 7 years ago on Why You Should Start Growing A Beard, From A Girl's Perspective

I am definitely #teambeard but I think the length is everything. My friend used to keep a trim beard that looked very good on him. A few years ago he decided to grow it out and now it is nearly to his belly button. He gets compliments from men all the time. Do you know how often he gets compliments from women? He doesn’t. Several girls have told him he should go back to trimmed because he was more attractive (he is single and looking) but he insists the right girl will like it. I appreciate that he says true to himself but unless he starts riding Harleys and looking for an “old lady”, I don’t see that happening with girls our age. You have to decide the intentions of your beard: to appeal to hipsters or show that you don’t care about your appearance, or to appeal to the ladies and move up in the business world? #TeamBeard but #TeamTrimBeard

  • IdgieThreadgoode 7 years ago on A Wino's Review Of A Shitty Bottle Of Wine

Throwing this out there, feel free to send it back but I work with a charity wine company- proceeds go to various non-profits (including animal shelters)- the wine is made in Napa Valley, tastes good, and can be purchased for between $8.25-$18.99 a bottle. Willing to drive to deliver to any PGP meetups.

  • IdgieThreadgoode 7 years ago on I Can't Wait For The Salt And Pepper Look

I don’t know at what age it happened, but I remember seeing a guy not much older than me with some grey in their hair and having an internal reaction similar to when I see men lifting heavy things and building fires. Suddenly I was very attracted to salt and pepper hair/beards and, on the opposite side of the spectrum, embraced their receding hairlines by voluntarily going completely bald. Big fan of both of those looks for no apparent reason other than maybe maturity and the confidence to put it all out there.

  • IdgieThreadgoode 7 years ago on First Date Rules From A Dude Who Crushes First Dates

I make it a personal rule not to search any social media forms for their information so I don’t fact check them while we talk (just kidding, it’s so I don’t have a preconceived idea of them before we actually meet and they disappoint me in person) but that being said, since I don’t have Instagram and I’m not very active on Facebook, is that why my prospects have been declining lately?

  • IdgieThreadgoode 7 years ago on Pat Yourself On The Back Because Our Generation's Women Are Drinking More Than Ever

I’ve been drinking bourbon and whiskey since I was 16, worked in fancy bars with nice liquors I’ve had the privilege of trying (but couldn’t afford…PGP), and am open to a lot of tastes, but even I cannot make the transition to scotch. It’s too harsh and it’s not used in many cocktails so I think you’re going to be hard pressed to find a girl whose go-to is that unless you introduce her to it yourself. Good luck!

  • IdgieThreadgoode 8 years ago on A Dude's Breakdown Of Week 4 Of "The Bachelorette"

Not that it’s super significant, but Chad had asked if JoJo had ever floated the river, not if she’s been to a particular city. I looked at her the same way he did when she said no. Floating the river in the lower Midwest is a right of passage.

  • IdgieThreadgoode 8 years ago on Does Being 'One Of The Guys' Mean I Can Come To Your Bachelor Party?

I go to strip clubs with guys more often than I care to admit and I am privileged (if you want to call it that) to a lot of my guy friends’ raunchy stories but I would never expect to be invited to the bachelor party without a) the bride and all of her friends hating me b) inevitably being peer pressured into be entertainment in some way or another and both are a no. I would not invite a guy to my bachelorette party unless he were gay. And I would rather not get married than have a conjoined bach party.

  • IdgieThreadgoode 8 years ago on I'm Engaging In The Chase: Plan-B

Wait, did you say you watched her take the pill just because you were watching her take it or did you say you watched her take the pill because you were watching her take it to make sure she did? Is that something guys do? Make sure the girl takes the Plan B pill? Do girls actually not take it after it’s bought?

  • IdgieThreadgoode 8 years ago on Sack Up And Call Her

For me, initially it’s more or less to reiterate that I consider it an actual date and am not just looking for a hook up. But I can see why you say that because it’s happened that I haven’t followed through on that rule because there was strong attraction and also strong bourbon (subsequent personal rule: two drink max haha). I’m sure that’s the case for other people too though which is why the rule seems silly.
