It’s cinco de mayo and graduation weekend at my alma mater. Visiting friends who are graduating this semester, going to my favorite bar to see if last year bartenders are still there, and if I can finally close the deal with this one I flirted with my last semester. Regardless, lots of tequila shots will be ordered.

I relate to this so much. For the first 16 years of my life I lived in a country where seasonal allergies didn’t exist, so when I moved to the US not only did I not understand the concept, but didn’t feel different at all during Spring. This year, 7 years after my move, allergy season has made me its bitch. I’ve been in complete pain for the past month or so and I need it to fucking end.

The squad drank violently yesterday. The group text today was us wondering if we had done any drugs. The few of us who like to be destructive are gonna keep drinking, because why not?

This is important. In college, I went out with this guy who claimed to be in love with me. We got to his place, started making out, then he stops and says “I promised myself I would do this” and proceeds to press play on a The Weeknd playlist. He probably thought it was nice since I’m obsessed with The Weeknd, but it was a terrible move, because it just felt so forced. But then again, everything he did in bed was forced. It was traumatizing.

If your question is whether having those opinions makes you less of a woman — no, it doesn’t. IWD was about women and allies doing what they could (marching, taking a day off, wearing red) to raise awareness to the issues of equity, justice and human rights of women (as said on their website).

If you’re not interested/disagrees with the cause, then don’t take part. You’re certainly still a woman, as much of a woman as those who took part in IWD.

Like Quinn said, I completely understand your thoughts. I do think a lot of people who support the Democratic Party are radicals in the sense that they will read the words “I am a conservative woman” and automatically start an argument or, what’s even worse, not even read what comes after that. I think that helps no one, and I’ve been trying to be more respectful and accommodating of other viewpoints and discussions about them.
You mentioned you didn’t participate in a day without women and the women’s march, and I was kinda wondering if any woman who is conservative/republican who WANTED to participate in those felt discouraged to do so because they felt it was only aimed to democrats – I know this doesn’t apply to you, but if any other women here would like to contribute, that would be cool!

I legitimately find this really interesting. When you say your peers, do you mean women? And do you feel that liberal women actively undermine or discourage your opinions? I’m very liberal and I have a few female conservative friends, and I sometimes wonder if they feel uncomfortable talking to me about certain things just because they feel uncomfortable, or if it’s because they feel I discourage them.

I don’t think it’s necessarily about censoring it. However, if a person looks at me and tells me my joke offended them, then I would apologize. I might find it harmless, but if another person didn’t think so, who am I to determine how they should feel?

As a woman who just recently started reading this website, I wasn’t expecting this amount of men being so butthurt over this. Like, I guess I knew a lot of people here lean towards conservative beliefs, but to be so mad that a woman is writing about her experience with DWI? Pretty confusing.
