My flight just landed. I was a little agitated at the Raleigh airport prior to my flight, but two hours in the air calmed me down considerably. I hope the train and connecting bus ride home from O’Hare does not re-kindle that agitation because I am liking this mood now.
I’M CONDUCTING THE CLOSING MEETING ON THIS ENGAGEMENT I TRAVELED OUT TO NORTH CAROLINA (RAISE UP!) FOR. BRINGING IN HELLA CASH FOR OUR AGENCY AS A RESULT. FIRST ONE HERE AND I’M ALL JACKED TO GO.
AFTER THAT I’M HOPING TO CRANK OUT SOME QUALITY ‘TENT FOR PEEJ TO KEEP THE BALL ROLLING. THEN I’M GETTING ON A PLANE BACK TO CHICAGO WHERE I’LL BE, TO QUOTE AXL ROSE, SIPPIN’ A DRINK AND FEELING FINE.
I missed out on a prime opportunity to make jokes about how some people think using a flip phone makes me look like a drug dealer, which provides an enormous boost to my non existent street cred. I regret the omission.
Going back to the old stomping grounds in Champaign tomorrow to see the Illini play Maryland and party with my friend who’s in law school down there. Classes for them start Tuesday so campus bars probably won’t be that full, but there should still be a decent crowd out.
Sunday Funday for Packers/Cowboys when I return from U of I because I don’t work on Monday.
Boneless, skinless chicken breast that’s been marinating in Lawry’s Santa Fe Chili with garlic & lime marinade all day. Gonna throw that in the oven, with sides of steamed frozen broccoli & cauliflower and a toasted, buttered wheat roll. Might follow it up with a couple Fannie May candies for dessert depending on how I’m feeling.
I can relate to this completely, although my situation is different as far as distance goes.
I went to college two hours away from home, and I currently live in “The City” which is only 45 miles away from my hometown. I love going back home at least once a month to spend a weekend at my parents place to relax, hang out with the folks, work out using our equipment in the basement, and just be in the welcoming and loving environment it provides. It really allows me to center myself and find peace in the craziness of having a full time job and city life and all that.
Since college I guess I’ve had the best of both worlds of being able to live on my own and do my own thing in a different city while always knowing that home is close and always there for me. And for that I’ll always be grateful. For that reason, as much as I talk smack about the actual town I’m from and where they currently live, I could never move too far away from my family.
Programming note: I wrote this last night when I was flying hungover after being in Iowa City all weekend, so I apologize if this column is even worse than usual.
The pain built up over a few days. At first I thought it was just a “tummy ache” that wouldn’t go away. Eventually the pain intensified to the point that I could barely stand up straight. So I pretty much waited until the pain was at us absolute worst to get it looked at, at which point I was immediately sent to the ER.
I work four 10-hour days Monday through Thursday with Fridays off, and one thing I’ve noticed is that I don’t really ever fall into a “Friday mentality” of just mailing it in at the end of the week on Thursday. Sure, the last hour or so on Thursday can be a blowoff at times, but for the most part I stay focused because it still never truly feels like the weekend until I’m actually out of there, as opposed to Fridays where the mindset is “Well it might as well be the weekend.” That’s why I don’t take Mondays off– even though I’m working the same amount of hours, going in on Friday would be a black hole of productivity. It’s a mentality that’s been hardwired into me since the early day of grade school, I guess.
I hope that made sense. And there’s all the other benefits of having at least a three day weekend every weekend too.
Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet n Spicy BBQ sauce over everything.

Best snack to have on hand at your desk in the office?
I am! Big #MACtion fan here, even though my personal favorite from that conference is Northern Illinois.
They servin’ Purple Drank on tap there at that Hooters?
Tag fail. Oh well, Cleveland Rocks, as evidenced by this video of its citizens in their natural habitat: https://youtu.be/j1G2l_A9nB0
Oh hell yes.
Mosh.

Went to the Iowa game this weekend. It’s a fun town, those people know how to have a good time.

9. Repeat whatever 2-3 words they remember from high school Spanish whenever they can.
Instead of using what I remember from high school Español, I do this with the Spanish verses of Sublime’s Caress Me Down.
