We did an interview. He’s big on labs are “gun dogs” so he wants to make sure his dogs are going to people who will truly hunt with them. He believes a dog from him will be “miserable” sitting in a home day after day. He’s also about 1/2 the cost of most breeders in TX and his reputation is that of a man that truly loves labs and wants to spread the joy, not make money. I do know some breeders are bad, but that can be said about any “profession”. I think it’s just about doing your homework, finding a solid breeder, and making sure your reasons for going through a breeder outweigh the reasons you’d adopt. I’m honestly shocked by the hostility the question brought to the comment section
You do realize AKC paperwork is more than a family tree right? Also, the inbred argument is over hyped from your side of the argument. 1. Dogs are not under the same “inbred” risk as humans and 2. My dog has zero instances of inbreeding in its line. Some “breeders” might use the method but trusted/reputable breeders are not going to inbreed to the point that it becomes an issue. Also, my question was more of a social conversation not a lack of dog knowledge
You know your dog and its “family” has no issues as far as health, mentality, hip problems, and is breed to perform certain task. I mean, do you really think I’m just going around bragging? “Oh that’s cute your kid learned to walk but did I mention my dog is AKC?” No, it’s simply a way for me to verify what I’m getting and also helps if I ever want to breed my dog in the future (that’s real wild isn’t it? Do I go to hell for that or just more judgment from SJWs?)
Thanks for the (rational) tips. I’ve always used a guide’s dogs or my dad’s. This will be my first to train on my own. Very excited. She’s going to be the best of the good girls.

The guy I’m getting the dog from is a stand up citizen of our community and happens to donate most of his profits to dog charities and hunting conservation. I get a difference in opinion but to throw out ridiculous judgements against folks that don’t see eye to eye with you is honestly…pathetic. Go ahead and get your hairpiece set up and ready to go…the second you show any signs of hair loss slap it on before anyone notices the thinning.
