As the saying goes, “First it giveth, then it taketh away.” Well, the same is apparently true for McDonald’s. Earlier this year, the chain announced they would be making select breakfast menus available all day long, and the world rejoiced. An Egg McMuffin at 2:43 p.m.? Hallelujah! Hash browns for dinner? Praise be the Lord! But now, they taketh away – and what they are getting rid of is going to hurt our (late-night, drunken) wallets. Because it’s the Dollar menu.
Ok, before you completely freak out, let me assuage some of your fears: to replace our beloved Dollar menu, the Golden Arches will introduce a “McPick 2″ menu, which will allow you to get two items for two bucks, including the McDouble, the McChicken, small fries, or the thing we’ve all been waiting to arrive at McD’s, mozzarella sticks. So essentially, still a buck…except you have to buy two; according to Eater], “The McPick 2 menu, while still offering items for just a buck, requires customers to purchase two at a time for the special pricing.” And I suppose the point should be made that not everything on the Dollar Menu was actually a buck; there were also items for $1.39, $1.69, $2.49, and even $5, which is kind of bullshit.
But still…I just don’t know about this. Sure, we are getting mozzarella sticks out of the deal, but what if I just want a small fry? What if I only have a buck in coins in my cup holder? I guess I’ll just have to see when the menu rolls out on January 4th…until then, I’ll be rolling through the drive thru at 2 a.m., crumpled dollar bill in hand, getting my late night Chicken McNuggets and dreading the day it all goes away..
