How many times have you had the problem of being out and about with a big group downtown, and all six of you have to squeeze into a Ford Focus? Sure, you could order an Uber SUV, but who the hell has money for that? Who are we, the Rockefellers? Rich people don’t have Post Grad Problems, they cause Post Grad Problems.
Well, finally, Uber has a solution for you: Introducing UberXL, a brand new expansion to the UberX line, designed to carry large groups at a lower cost.
Uber had this to say on their blog:
“We’re thrilled to announce our newest addition to the uberX family — uberXL. With room for your whole entourage (up to six passengers), uberXL is comfortable, convenient, and low-cost. You can expect pickups from Toyota Highlanders, Honda Pilots, and Nissan Pathfinders, among others.”
In order to request the new kind of car, go to the UberX option on your Uber app and select “UberXL,” then submit a pickup request as normal.
An UberXL has a base fare of $4.50 in New York City, compared to a $3 base fare for UberX. Uber XLs are $0.60 per minute and $3.25 per mile, for a minimum of $12, whereas an UberX is $0.40 per minute, $2.15 per mile, with an $8 minimum. Slightly more expensive, but very convenient, still not as expensive as getting an SUV, and is clearly designed for Uber’s Fare Splitting program
