In case you don’t get your fill of weird Olympic fringe sports this month, the International Olympic Committee has decided to add skateboarding, surfing, baseball/softball, karate, and climbing to the 2020 summer Olympics. Committee officials said the decision comes in the wake of an effort to attract younger viewers to the Olympics.

“We want to take sport to the youth,” IOC President Thomas Bach said, according to the news release. “With the many options that young people have, we cannot expect any more that they will come automatically to us. We have to go to them.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t baseball considered a dying sport? A game of the past? I could see skateboarding catching on with the youngsters, maybe even surfing, but karate? Climbing? That’s napping tv if I’ve ever heard of it.

You want to attract young viewers to the Olympics tell the rest of the world to get better at basketball and make football an Olympic sport. Nothing will attract an audience more than America dominating third world countries in the most violent sport ever created.
