After “Closer,” many people the world over were saying that there was no possible way The Chainsmokers could do it again. Then, like clockwork, they released “Paris” and later “Something Just Like This.” Heater after heater. Endorsement deals and a high profile residency in Las Vegas followed.
You can yell from your ivory tower listening to the oldies about how Drew and Alex are part of the reason why music sucks today but you’d be wrong. You simply don’t get it.
Popular music has always been and always will be criticized by old hats who refuse to adapt with the times. It’s fine. I get that it’s threatening. But anyone who says that “Closer,” “Paris,” or any other one of the innumerable hits that The Chainsmokers have are not good songs are one thing and one thing only: jealous haters.
I love The Chainsmokers because they make music that I shake my ass to. Are some of the beats and lyrics in these aforementioned songs a little bit cliche and cringy? Yeah, but if you could get your head out of your ass for a minute and simply take the songs at face value (something to shake your ass to) I promise you that they can be enjoyed. It’s fun music, plain and simple.
And their newest collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger is no different. Just a little fun that deviates slightly from what would be considered normal attire.
It’s sure to ignite a firestorm of hate from people on Twitter and Instagram, so before all of that happens I’m going to jump in front of this one and say that this line of clothing is, for all intents and purposes, mediocre (much like Jim Harbaugh’s tenure at the University of Michigan). Sorry I couldn’t resist throwing a light jab at those guys down in Ann Arbor after this past weekend.
This first look is admittedly not my thing. But I say that it’s not my thing because I know that I could not pull off that jacket that Drew has on in a million years. The same goes for the sweater on Alex. It looks like the bottom half is made of neoprene (which I only wear when I’ve got a life vest on and I’m jet skiing) but hell. If Alex can pull it off, why can’t you?
These bomber jackets? Give me two of these suckers so I have one to wear during the work week that I can spill condiments all over with reckless abandon and then another one for the weekend so that I can flex all over all of the idiots wearing jeans and button downs at the bar. The Hilfiger logo on the sleeve really brings it all together for me.
These sweaters aren’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. I probably wouldn’t wear one unless I was modeling for Tommy Hilfiger, but after reading this blog I’ve got a pretty good feeling someone from TH will be reaching out with a modeling deal for me. I’m ready when you are, Tommy. Just say the word and I’ll quit my job and start modeling moderately priced clothing for you.
Bottom line? This Tommy Hilfiger x Chainsmokers collab isn’t going to be everyone. But when have The Chainsmokers ever been universally loved? The answer is never.
They’re polarizing, and this new collaboration with TH falls right in line with everything else they’ve ever done. It’s not for everyone, but it is for someone. Maybe that someone is you. .
P.S. Never forget.

what ran through my head when i saw these fits?
i thought ‘wow,’ if i could take this in a shot rn
I think they’d look great if you were out on a terrace wasted with someone else
Young John Frusciante: how do you feel about the progress of your electronic music under the alias TrickFinger? Are you looking to produce another Black Knights album? Any jam sessions with Omar Rodriguez Lopez Quartet again? Your thoughts on the Peppers after your departure?
I feel like I’ve been able to create music that has no true audience but has allowed me to grow substantially as a musician. As far as future collaborations I really don’t know right now. I’ll continue to experiment with all facets of music and well, I really have no idea where it will take me. As far as the RHCPs go I’m happy for them. I think Josh is doing wonderful and they seem to be thriving with what they are doing. That’s something that, well, you know I…just…leave in the past. It was great and I love those guys but my musical path just went a different way.
Can’t wait till my Instagram is overrun with girls wearing those sweaters as a dress in front of some lame neon sign at a club with a caption like “neon nights”
But is it waterproof? With those neoprene additions I think yes, making these garments fashionable yet finctional
Man, now I need a new chainsmokers banger.
Are they wanting to be like Kanye or something?
“memories…do not open” was AWFUL
Don’t have a problem with their music, but those outfits are pretty meh.
“Something Just Like This,” and “Closer” are great, but “Paris” is literally just a remix of “Closer.” I’m not going to hate that much though because they obviously found a beat and hook that people like and they didn’t have to be to creative about it.
