At least Seattle won something last night.
According to data collected by breathalyzer service BACtrack, Seahawks fans were outdrinking Pats fans all night, well, that is until their souls were ripped from their bodies and run down with a monster truck on the one yard line with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. BACtrack collected data from almost 1,500 mobile users and determined that the 12th man was in fact drinking enough for twelve men.
I’ll let them explain it with their fancy science terms:
Data was collected anonymously from users of the BACtrack app, which syncs with both the BACtrack Vio and BACtrack Mobile smartphone breathalyzers, and represents 1,458 unique BAC tests collected during Super Bowl XLIX weekend. Data for Seahawks fans is based on unique BAC tests from WA and OR, while data for Patriots fans is based on unique BAC tests from MA, ME, VT, NH, CT and RI. Data used in the report was collected from users with location services turned on and does not represent data from all users.
Here’s what they learned:
- Seahawks fans had an average BAC of 0.084% while Patriots fans had an average BAC of 0.065%
- Seahawks fans’ BAC levels surged at halftime with an average BAC of 0.116%
- Patriots fans celebrated their victory, with the average BAC rising to 0.072% after the game
So, when were Seahawks fans the most plastered? Apparently most Seattle fans are Katy Perry haters, because their BAC spiked to absurd levels at halftime. Seahawks fans had an average BAC of 0.116% at halftime, while Patriots fans had an average BAC of 0.052% at halftime.
Seattle’s stronghold on being sauced took a nose dive as soon as the game ended, though. Patriots fans BAC rose to .0072% after the final whistle, while Seattle’s buzz was all but killed at a weak .031% BAC.
Here’s how everyone’s BAC levels rose throughout the game:
It’s like you can see Seattle’s dreams of back-to-back titles come crashing down along with their buzz.
On average, New England’s fans weren’t even legally drunk on average throughout the Super Bowl. What gives? In fairness, Gronk was a little busy to be taking a breathalyzer test.

Most people* were pretty hammered during the Superbowl.
