The Young Pope has to be an up and coming rapper somewhere right?
Yung Pope*
Serious recommendation (since you can’t get your phone line to work): Black Mirror. I had to pause each episode at least once or twice so I could audibly say “fuuuuuuuuuck.” Hands down the most well-made show I have ever seen.
Disclaimer: the show is done in M*A*S*H style in that each episode is completely independent of each other. SKIP THE FIRST TWO EPISODES.
Unless you wanna see a grown man fuck a pig.
Only one episode has a somewhat happy ending (if you think opting to live in the matrix is happy), but yeah skip the pilot for sure.
Fucking love Black Mirror. Can’t believe we haven’t talked about it yet. Blew my mind.
The only one I’ve watched so far is the pig-fucking one. Will continue to plow through though.
Episode 3 will make you want to text your SO and say you love them.
I think hbo is just trying to get some shock and aw viewers with the young pope. It’ll get some attention but I don’t see it going a long ways. Who wants to watch a show about church?
I didn’t get approval on this!
I’m probably in the minority nowadays but I started The Young Pope and was disgusted with how they portrayed the church and all that. I get that it’s a drama show but I couldn’t bring myself to watch past the first 10 minutes when he was saying all the ridiculously progressive shit to the people from his balcony. There are better shows out there that don’t denigrate a sixth of the world.
But did you watch past the 10 minute mark where all of that changed in a way? I’ve only seen ep 1 and 2 and while I find it hard to get in to I’m interested to see where it goes.
I passively watched the rest of the first episode. I’m all for a controversial show but it seems like HBO was basically just like “let’s see how grossly offensive and ridiculously uncouth we can be and try to piss off a lot of people.”
It could’ve been controversial and I still would’ve watched it (it did peak my interest after all) but they just overdid it in my opinion.
Yeah I dunno I’m a church dude and it doesn’t bother me, but I’m not Catholic.
It doesn’t necessarily bother me it’s just not something I’m not interested in watching if it’s that absurd. I feel like they tried way too hard to make it controversial.
I don’t find it the least bit controversial, nor do I think it was meant to be.
The Young Pope is a conservative extremist which scares the intra-political backbone of the Vatican controlled by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Voiello. The A storyline, thus far, is pretty simply about Lenny/Pope Pius XIII trying to seize the power that has belonged to the network of Cardinal-politicians for a very long time. The B storyline is Lenny’s background, relationship with Sister Mary, and how his upbringing led him to become such an isolated, fire-and-brimstone zealot.
That being said, it does not surprise me that this show isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. Since it’s called a “limited series” and stars acclaimed movie-stars, I do not expect a Season 2.
Barrett a solid espionage/thriller show is Colony. Its a USA show but the first season is on Netflix. Wouldnt call it amazing but there are definitely far worse shows you could be watching.
