So you think you’re hot stuff in your Risky Business or sexy pirate costume? Puh-leez. Even the most creative of Halloween costumes pale in comparison to those dreamed up by paralympian and motivational speaker Josh Sundquist.
Mr. Sundquist lost his left leg to bone cancer at the age of nine. Rather than whine and complain about what an unlucky hand he’d been dealt, he pulled himself up by his bootstraps and was named to both the US Paralympic Ski Team and the US Amputee Soccer Team. And here I was feeling accomplished for getting the dishes done before work today.
As you can see, this year’s costume cements Sundquist’s place in Halloween Champion history. If his past costumes are any indication, he’ll come up with something equally amazing next year. Personally, my favorite is last year’s A Christmas Story themed costume, and I have no doubt that he made quite a few ladies jealous of that leg.
The #AmputeeHalloween trend seems to have begun in 2010 with Sundquist’s ill-fated gingerbread man costume. Based on this trend, we can only assume that Mr. Sundquist will begin taking suggestions and ideas for Halloween 2014 sometime next summer.
At any rate, here’s to you Mr. Sundquist. You truly have won at Halloween, and at life in general. I will definitely be putting your memoir, “Just Don’t Fall” on my list of books to read. Cheers.
