Lena Dunham is a very polarizing figure. Many people enjoy her for her work on the show Girls. Many people dislike her for various reasons. Like the fact that she admitted in her memoir to, uh, having uncomfortable interactions with her younger sister.
But a lot of people really like Girls, you guys.
Anyway, Lena decided to show her support for Hillary in a… unique way. She made a music video. She raps in it. Charlamagne Tha God is there for some reason. It… it is a spectacle.
So, a couple of things.
1) The most relatable part of this video is the guy a minute in saying, “Lena Dunham, NOOOO.” That guy speaks for most of America. I’d like to believe that that line wasn’t in the script and that guy spoke from the heart.
2) Lena Dunham has a lot of things. A TV show. Rich parents. White privilege. A book. She does not have bars.
3) Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer will eventually form White Girl Voltron and talk about penises and mimosas until we all bend to their will. We must stay strong.
Charlamagne Tha God, perhaps breaking character, sums it up pretty well near the video’s end with “I don’t understand the logic here.”
Is there any logic here? Did Lena Dunham see Hamilton and think “How can I do something like this but a lot worse?” Maybe this is a ploy to make people forget about all those e-mails, or to appeal to younger voters. Maybe Lena Dunham is completely fucking insane. Maybe all of these things are true.
At this point, it’s useless to try to make sense of the election. We’re better off embracing the madness. .
