The newest shoe from Under Armour/Steph Curry has garnered a lot of attention-both positive and negative. Under Armour has been trying to dip their toes into the shoe game for a while now, inking other high profile deals with Tom Brady, Notre Dame, and Jordan Spieth.
The response on Twitter to the Steph Curry 2 Lows was not great. Most compared the shoe to something a geriatric retiree would wear walking around the nursing home, and I have to say that I agree.
If this shoe had come out eight months ago people would be screaming “What are thoooooooose???” from on high. Does Jordan Spieth rocking the “Straight Fire’s” change that? Absolutely not.
If anything, Spieth wearing Steph’s new shoe only makes the shoe look even worse. Who does Under Armour want buying these shoes? Kids or middle aged men? Because if it’s the latter than they’re right on track.
Take one of the most vanilla guy on the PGA tour in Jordan Spieth and put him in a pair of Steph 2 Lows and you have a recipe for disaster in terms of marketing. Think about who tunes in every weekend for a golf tournament. I can tell you right now most of those people are not basketball players.
They’re guys with lawns to mow. They’re guys with mortgages to pay. And they’re also guys that are constantly in search of a shoe with good arch support. So great job Under Armour. You really knocked this one out of the park. The Steph 2 Lows are coming to grocery store near you. I wouldn’t expect to see anyone in their right mind wearing these on the basketball court..
Steph can’t get a win in those shoes and neither will Spieth this weekend.
They actually have other neat colors. I don’t know why they keep pushing the fucking white ones.
Neat!
Don’t hate on the dad cruisers. I respect the game, Steph.
Still better than Rickie’s high tops
