People use Instagram in a variety of questionable ways (inspirational quotes, food pic after food pic, etc.), but one exec from J.Crew took it to another level when he used it to taunt his recently laid off employees.
The company’s Vice President of Men’s Merchandising, Alejandro Rhett, personally had to let go some of the 175 people who were part of a companywide lay-off that took place last week. Like, he actually sat in a room and delivered the news. Now, one would think you’d be a little depressed after spending the day telling some of your coworkers they no longer had jobs. Actually, I had to do that once, and I literally wanted to curl into a ball and sleep for four years at the end of that day. But instead of quietly heading home that evening, Alejandro went out drinking with some friends. Okay, I get that – you had a rough day and you want to blow off some stream. But apparently Mr. Rhett has absolutely no soul, because instead of drinking his sorrows away quietly, he decided to post several pictures to Instagram of him out celebrating with a few other still employed J.Crewers, with such hashtags as
#roseallday
#gonegirl
#hungergames
#jcrewcrew
#maytheoddsbeeverinyourfavor
#forthewin
#damnitfeelsgoodtobeagangster.
When contacted about the photos, a spokesman for J. Crew said, “J.Crew does not condone this. As soon as we were made aware, the appropriate actions took place.” The pictures have since been taken down (pretty sure that was part of the ‘appropriate actions’), but you can see them here. No word on whether Mr. Rhett is still gainfully employed, but I have a feeling he’ll probably be joining his former coworkers on the unemployment line soon, if karma has anything to do with it.
