It’s no secret that I love Christmas movies. But I apparently am in the minority in my home state of Massachusetts.
The folks at Estately, a real estate blog, used Facebook user data to look at the numbers of people who expressed an interest in 10 popular Christmas movies, and ranked the 50 states by their enthusiasm for Christmas movies. Massachusetts ranked 27th, which is pretty depressing for a Christmas movie aficionado such as myself. Check out where your state ranked:
The blog also used Google Trends data from the last 11 years to look at which of those 10 holiday movies was googled the most in each state:
Okay, what the hell is wrong with you people? National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is only number one in five states: Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Alabama and Kentucky? Clearly, people have on the east and west coasts have no taste. Although I feel slightly vindicated in my holiday movie rankings: no state counted The Santa Clause as their most googled holiday movie.
And while I’m disappointed, I have to say I’m not surprised that Scrooged is number one here in Boston. The title alone is pretty reflective of our general cantankerous behavior.
Merry Christmas, you filthy animals!
