It’s Veterans’ Day (observed anyway) and instead of sharing my usual snark here at the top, I’ll instead share some thoughts from this weekend’s Saturday Night Live:
Now, I don’t agree with Lt. Com. Crenshaw’s politics, but I do agree that no matter where we happen to fall on the political spectrum, we can all remember what brings us together as a country and still see the good in each other. What better way to recognize the sacrifices our veterans have made for us?
And with that, let’s get to it.
Ice-T
One of the hardest things about living the #lowcarblife has been giving up bagels. The chewy, perfect vessel for cream cheese is one of the things I miss the most (and occasionally still engage in, carbs be damned). But for rapper-turned-actor Ice-T, it’s a joy he’s never experienced.
The SVU star stunned the world on Friday when he shared on Twitter that he’s never eaten a bagel:
Lol. I’ve never eaten a Bagel in my life… https://t.co/1a4jtL9qTP

After that shocking revelation, the current spokesperson for RXBAR spokesman took it one step further:
I’ve never drank a cup of Coffee ☕️ either… Go CRAZY!!!

The reactions to Ice-T’s disclosures were varied, from Philadelphia Cream Cheese expressing their shock and a full scale SVU investigation:
But I’ve got to say, I know how sad a bagelless weekend can be and I’m sad that Ice-T doesn’t know what he’s missing. [via People]
Tempe High School Students
I don’t remember much about my high school cafeteria experience, besides eating those round, single-serving pizzas on a way more regular basis than is healthy. But I’m sure I would have remembered setting a rat in the cafeteria, and I’m also pretty sure the students at Tempe High School won’t be able to forget it.
Students saw the rat through the cafeteria windows and shared video on Facebook and Snapchat of the rodent scurrying around looking for food.
Hernando Hernandez, who shared the video, said, “It just felt like really nasty. We eat all the food in there. That’s just really unsanitary. I just wonder how clean it is inside, like in reality.”
Jennifer Liewer, Executive Director of Community Relations, Tempe Union High School District, issued a statement:
We are aware that there was a rodent on campus. We are currently working with a professional company to address the issue. Tempe High is our oldest school and presents unique challenges when it comes to sealing the older building, however, it is unacceptable that a rodent gained access to the cafeteria. It is our practice to lock up food and keep it in elevated containers to ensure safe food handling and staff has taken extra precautionary measures since we became aware of the issue. We continue to work with the company to ensure that our campus is free of rodents.
According to ABC15, The Maricopa County Department of Health added the risks depend on what kind of rat is inside but say they’re “not concerned” and don’t think the rat is carrying any diseases.
Yeah, that’s comforting. [via ABC15]
Bobby Petrino
The second time’s not a charm for Louisville coach Petrino, as he was fired from his second tenure as the Cardinals’ football coach on Sunday.
The university let Petrino go following Louisville’s 54-23 loss to Syracuse on Saturday, which dropped the team to a 2-8 record on the season, including 0-7 in the ACC. Three assistant coaches (who happened to be Petrino’s son and sons-in-law) were let go as well, as well as the director of football operations.
The firing makes a very different end from Petrino’s first sojourn at Louisville – he left in 2006 following an Orange Bowl victory to take the head coach role with the Atlanta Falcons. Somehow, I’m not sure that the pros are going to come calling this time. [via Bleacher Report]
Dogs
The food recalls that seem to be happening with a scary regularity have now gone to the dogs.
According to The Daily Mail, two pet food brands, Nutrisca and Natural Life Pet Products, have issued a voluntary recall for certain bags of dry dog food containing chicken, chickpea and potato because they have too much Vitamin D in them due to a “formulation error.” The food was sold in retail stores in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and California.
Symptoms of vitamin D toxicity in dogs can include vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling and weight loss.
Okay, we need to get to the bottom of all of these recalls. It’s one thing when it hurts humans, but dogs? Unacceptable. [via Daily Mail]
The Patriots
It hurts to write this, but honestly, what the fuck was that shitshow yesterday? Former Patriot Dion Lewis has some thoughts.
After Lewis’s Tennessee Titans bested the Patriots on Sunday, 34-10, Lewis shared his thoughts with Michael Giardi of NFL Network, saying, “Hell yeah, it’s personal. That’s what happens when you go cheap. You get your ass kicked.”
He also added insult to injury with some tweets:

Of course, Lewis probably could recognize which team picked him up after crappy seasons with the Eagles, Browns and Colts and kept him on through various injuries, but sure, be petty. It looks cute on you. [via ESPN] .
I guess were not going to talk about the bears kicker who hit the uprights four times. As a bears fan im ok with not talking about that.
Petrino at least is getting paid. On the flipside, if y’all haven’t seen Zach Smith’s latest meltdown get on that. Dude is flat-out losing his mind on Twitter.
Ok. Cool.
Hook Em!
It’s a terrible fucking time to be named Zack smith
Oh wow that did not disappoint.
Your school cafeteria pizza was round? We always had those square ones with the cube shaped pepperoni.
