Sorry that this edition is coming a little bit later than it normally does on a Monday, but I’m on vacation today, and frankly, I wanted to sleep in after I stayed awake watching Friends on Nick at Nite until 2 a.m. To make up for it, I’ll skip the pleasantries and get right to it.
Heat-Haters
I’m in Texas this week, and while I’m hiding in the hotel air-conditioning, I’m told it’s 102 degrees outside. That’s what I’d expect in Texas, but people across the country are heading into the 4th of July holiday with ridiculous temps.
“Heat domes” are driving the temperatures into the triple digits across most of the country and are expected to hang around until at least Thursday.
Places such as New York, Washington, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit could have temps as high as twenty degrees above normal as well as high dew points, making the air outside feel even worse.
The National Weather Service has advised that people Limit time outdoors, wear light colored and light weight clothing, take frequent breaks preferably in the shade, and drink plenty of water,” and has also issued severe weather and flash flooding for parts of the country were storms may pop up.
Stay cool, my friends. [via Daily Mail]
Dan Bilzerian
If there’s one person it’s hard to feel bad for, it’s Dan Bilzerian. But I suppose it sucks for anyone to have their house robbed.
The playboy poker player recently dropped $10 million on a new house in Vegas, but he barely had time to settle in before the place was hit by burglars. Security footage shows two thieves making off with a bunch of Bilzerian’s belongings, including designer clothes and electronics. Bilzerian was not in town at the time and his infamous gun collection is still housed at his Hollywood Hills home, so thank god for small favors. [via TMZ]
Seahawks Fans
To be able to retire at 30 is most people’s dream, but for Kam Chancellor and Seahawks fans, it’s bittersweet.
The defensive back was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, playing his entire career in Seattle and winning Super Bowl XLVIII with the team. But the four-time Pro Bowler announced his retirement on Sunday, citing various injuries and health concerns. The main concern seems to revolve around an injury sustained last season, when he hurt his neck making a tackle on Arizona’s Andre Ellington back on November 9, which ended his season. Doctors advised the original Legion of Boomer that he risked paralysis if he continued playing.

Definitely a sad weekend for Seahawks fans, but definitely the right decision for Chancellor. [via New York Post]
Comcast Customers
Given that Comcast customers are likely paying a ridiculous Comcast bill, none of their weekends are particularly fantastic, but this one definitely sucked, because the service they pay through the nose for was down.
Starting on Friday, Comcast suffered a nationwide outage of its internet, television, and phone services due to two fiber cuts. Comcast said in a tweet:
We identified 2 unrelated fiber cuts to our network backbone providers. Our engineers are restoring services to business & residential internet, tv & voice customers. Apologies to those affected. If still having issue, use https://t.co/P6Ac7dZ5h4 to DM.

Customers were urged not to call 911 to report the outage (do people actually do that?!) and service was eventually restored to affected cities, such as New York, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle.
I’d say thank god for Netflix but if your internet was down…[via Fortune]
