Most athletes who try to cross over into the comedy industry fall flat on their face. I could tell you that Shaq crushed it in Kazaam but you and I both know it wasn’t great. We can pretend that Lebron James was great in Trainwreck, but it was more the writing than his actual delivery.
But somehow, some way, Blake Griffin is actually doing it. He’s actually funny, and he’s actually not receiving pity laughs. No, seriously, he is.
Case in point, Blake Griffin did a full standup routine at Just For Laughs Montreal and it went over phenomenally. He admits that, yes, he probably shouldn’t be good at standup but as his routine goes on, it’s pretty evident that he’s at least… decent? I don’t know. Watch for yourself.
See? I was right. His entire story about going to a strip club the night before Thanksgiving made me be okay with watching a 10-minute YouTube video when my normal tolerance for a video is, like, maybe a minute.
This clearly wasn’t his first attempt at comedy, either. He was on Comedy Central’s Broad City and pretty much spent the entire episode naked after having tantric sex with Ilana Glazer. Yes, that’s actually an episode that someone wrote and that he agreed to be in.
Bravo, Blake. Keep talking about having sex with strippers and the girls from Broad City, and you’ll do just fine. .
