Since the good Lord knows you won’t be springing for an internet radio subscription until you can find a way to properly expense it at work, you can’t afford to be using your limited skips on every other song on a station. So I’ve compiled a list of the six best Pandora stations. Trust my judgment. I took Jazz History 101 back in Spring of 2010; I know all about syncopation, or whatever you call it. Without further ado, the six best stations on Pandora Radio, plus, as every good list has, one honorable mention:
Discovery (band) Radio
The first song that played when I first checked out this station was an indie/electro-pop cover of “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5. ‘Nuff said. But I’ll say more for the sake of it. Along with incredible covers of 1960s hits, Discovery Radio also features music from the likes of Vampire Weekend, Passion Pit, MGMT and Miike Snow. Turn it on next time you’re easing your recently diagnosed hypertension with medical marijuana.
Summer Hits of the 90s
Technically, summer is not over until the 21st (or the 22nd, or the 23rd…I never know). Regardless, with hits from “Hypnotize” by Notorious B.I.G. to “All Star” by Smash Mouth, all the way down to “There She Goes” by The La’s from The Parent Trap soundtrack, you’d be a sap to sacrifice this opportunity for 90s nostalgia simply because this season is coming to a close. If it makes you feel any better, it’s not like any of us even have summers anymore. Happy listening, and be sure to save a skip in case “Ice Ice Baby” comes up.
80s Pop Radio
Are you white? Because I got two words: Duran Duran. While it’s not really my style, I’m a man of the people and this station is the people’s epitome of drunken group bar sing-alongs. “Livin’ On A Prayer,” “Hungry Like The Wolf” and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” were the first three songs to come up. Okay okay, “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” was in there somewhere, but you get like something like seven skips. That was more than two words, sorry.
Hip Hop BBQ
Break out the forties and baby pool, with cuts like Fat Joe and Ashanti’s “What’s Luv?” and Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin,” this playlist could make veggie burgers taste edible. Enjoy flashbacks to awkward middle school dances when Outkast’s “Hey Ya!” comes up.
White Stripes Radio
Featuring tunes from everyone’s favorite incestual-married-divorced-or-whatever couple, White Stripes Radio is a nice change of pace from your sacrilege music listening habits of Cobra Starship and Ke$ha. You’re not in college anymore, idiot. Anticipate various hits from bands like The Strokes, the Pixies, Cage The Elephant and Queens Of The Stone Age. Oh and The Black Keys, who apparently appreciate a good cat fight as much as the next guy.
Kid Cudi Radio
I know people who hate rap but still love the musical stylings of Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi. No seriously, that’s his legit given birth name. In addition to Cudi’s catchy ballads, enjoy classic hits from Kanye “Yeezus-Christ-his-new-shit-sucks” West, Lupe Fiasco, Lil “His-new-shit-sucks-as-well” Wayne, B.o.B. and the occasional Eminem throwback.
