I had a fantastic weekend in Vegas having a belated birthday celebration with the best friends a girl could ask for. Not even a severely delayed flight home could bring me down – but it did bring a severely delayed edition of this column and for that I apologize, as that I know many of you rely on hearing about people’s crappy weekends to get you through your Monday mornings. So let’s just get right to it!
Justin Tucker
He may have had a perfect PAT record up until yesterday, but Justin Tucker learned yesterday that that doesn’t mean shit when your first miss is one that really matters.
With 24 seconds remaining in yesterday’s game against the Saints, Ravens kicker Tucker missed an extra point kick that would have tied the game, giving New Orleans the 24-23 win.
Now, it was windy at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, and that could be the reason why Tucker’s kick went wide right, but when you are the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history, there’s no excuses and Tucker’s not making any. He said after the game, “I feel like I cost us the game. Every single one of my teammates thus far has told me the opposite, and no one play wins or loses a game. But that’s a tough thing to grapple with when you’re the guy in that situation at the end of the game.”
He added, “You play long enough, you’re going to have a kick that you want back, and tonight was that night for me.”
Well, at least he knows it. [via ESPN]
Paula Abdul
How many of you know that before she was a judge on American Idol’s initial run, she was actually a very successful singer and dancer? She was the Beyoncé of the late ’80s/early ’90s before she became a reality show judge and she’s taken that show on the road (given that she doesn’t have much else going on), but there’s been a few issues.
First, Abdul had to cancel a show on Friday night at Golden Nugget Lake Charles in Lake Charles, Louisiana, citing “production issues”:
And then came Saturday night, when 56-year-old Abdul took a header off the stage during the show at Hard Rock Live in Biloxi, Mississippi:
As bad as that looks, Abdul popped back up, retook the stage, and finished out the show. See? Just like Beyoncé would do. [via US Magazine]
Victoria’s Secret
Everyone’s favorite undie store may be in trouble and it’s because of the worst group of humans: teenagers.
Victoria’s Secret has long been a favorite of the youngins’…until now. In past years, the brand has had a spot on Piper Jaffrey’s list of US teens’ favorite clothing brands, but in the newest version of the survey, which is released twice a year, Vicky’s has fallen off. Making matters worse, the retailer did appear on the survey’s list of retailers that teens are no longer shopping at. Ouch.
Things are just as bad for spin-off brand Pink, with Piper Jefferies analyst Randy Konik writing, “With Pink, we view the brand as a fad and no longer wanted so we expect sales declines to accelerate through the holiday period and beyond.”
Hopefully Victoria has some more secrets up her sleeve. [via Business Insider]
Christie Gomez
We’ve all gotten a weird Uber/Lyft driver – one that talks too much, one that never says a word, one that smells a little funny. But none of those stories compares to what happened to Christie Gomez.
Gomez got into a Lyft in Sacramento and all was well until the driver suddenly started to laugh/cry while driving on the freeway. If you’ve ever driven on a California freeway, you know it’s enough to make you both laugh and cry, but when the driver started taking his hands off the wheel, covered his eyes and told Gomez to direct him on the road, she knew she was in some trouble. She managed to convince the driver to pull off the highway, saying she needed to use the restroom, and that’s when shit got even weirder.
While Gomez went into a Starbucks, the driver went into a gas station, locked himself in the restroom, covered himself in soap and trying to bite his own skin. Sacramento police were able to take the driver into custody and put him on a psychiatric hold.
Lyft issued a statement, saying ‘We have deactivated the driver’s account as we collect more details and have been in contact with the passenger affected;” they also gave Gomez a full refund…which seems like not nearly enough for her trouble. [via Daily Mail]

Not much else to be said there, is there? Props to Kenny Stills for checking on the guard and giving her the ball:

Of course, he knows how it feels to hit that wall – he got a gash in his leg after hitting it (and a cameraman) after another touchdown earlier this season.
Might be time to rethink your set up there, Dolphins. [via SB Nation] .
