Big, big news out of Hollywood last night. The Hills (also known as my number one all-time favorite reality show) appears to be returning to MTV sometime in the very near future per a Spencer Pratt Instagram last night (featuring a wonderfully haunting acoustic rendition of Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten”):
If we’re going off of pure nostalgia here, I’m really stoked for a reboot of The Hills. This show was the driving force behind getting me into trash reality television and I can’t thank LC, Kristen Cavallari, and Heidi enough. It’s because of them that I now love watching Vanderpump Rules, Very Cavallari (don’t sleep on this show; it’s fantastic), and Southern Charm.
But if I can be candid and grounded in reality for a moment, I know that this is going to stink. My expectations are sky high when I know that they shouldn’t be. You can’t just recreate the first six seasons of The Hills.
Anyone who is coming back to be on this reboot is like 40 now and married with kids. There’s just no way that they can manufacture drama like they used to. Spencer Pratt is still certifiably insane and he’s married to Heidi now (both of whom are desperate to be famous again) so that will be an interesting part of the show. But there were some glaring absences at the announcement last night at the VMAs that the show would be back.
From Today:
“The Hills” cast reunited on the pink carpet of the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night … with one major exception.
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were there, of course (with their son, Gunner). So were Audrina Patridge and her quotable ex, Justin Bobby. Even Stephanie Pratt, Jason Wahler and Frankie Delgado made an appearance.
But the reunion lacked the biggest “Hills” star of them all: Lauren Conrad, aka LC, aka Heidi’s frenemy, aka Jason’s former girlfriend, aka the one who will always be known as the girl who didn’t go to Paris.
The mom and fashion designer didn’t attend the ceremony. Also conspicuous by their absence: Whitney Port and Kristin Cavallari, the latter of whom replaced Conrad late in the hit MTV series’ six-season run.
While I found Whitney boring the first go around, the only reason I thought that was because she was a nice person. She was still a good sounding board for LC whenever some drama popped up. If Kristen, Whitney, and LC are all refusing to participate, I don’t see The Hills reboot lasting very long.
I need Spencer and LC screaming at each other. I need LC putting her career in jeopardy (how the fuck do you not go to Paris???) to stay in a relationship with some bro. And speaking of which — could MTV not get Brody back for this, either? I know he’s got a DJ career now but COME ON. Spencer Pratt is entertaining, but him and Heidi alone aren’t going to put asses in the seats.
I’m excited, you’re excited; everyone is excited for some new episodes. But we need to temper our expectations if MTV is unable to get one of the flagship personalities back. Without LC, it’s just going to be an hour of Spencer rubbing crystals on his head and saying “homie” a lot..

No LC, so I’m out.
Jay Cutler single-handedly makes Very Cavallari. When that towel caught on fire, he was cool under pressure.
We were never excited, John
I’m with you on Very Cavallari. It’s worth it for the Jay Cutler scenes alone. The rest of the cast is pretty meh.
Southern Charm and The Hills are both great shows. But don’t know if I’ll watch The Hills without LC, Kristen, Brody.
I love Very Cavallari. Jay is the BEST. she said she was about to sign with E for a Hills reunion when Spencer and Heidi signed with MTV, so hopefully she will go on or something…
Eh, it’s no OC.
