Yes, I had to work on Friday, but you know what? It was still a pretty good weekend. I went shopping Friday night and knocked out most of my holiday gifts (pro-tip: the mall on the night of Black Friday is not actually that busy and most of the sales are still going on), decorated my place for the holidays on Saturday, and spent Sunday wrapping gifts while watching football. Plus, I managed not to put on actual pants from about 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday, which is a major win in my book. But while I had a great weekend, not so much for these people.
Mariah Carey Fans
I’ve gone on record about how I think Mariah’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is a total trash song, but I do feel for the people that really wanted to see her sing it live this holiday, because they are crap out of luck.
Mimi has been sidelined by her doctors, canceling shows on November 27, 28 and December 1. She had previously canceled earlier stops on her Christmas tour, which was supposed to start on November 17, citing a respiratory infection. She took to Instagram to announce the latest cancellations:
Hopefully, her doctors emancipate Mimi from her sick bed soon. [via New York Daily News]
The Jets
As a Patriots fan, I obviously hate the Jets. So I’m happy to report that they had a pretty shitty Sunday.
Things were looking up for New York in the fourth quarter of their game against Carolina, when this touchdown gave them the lead:
Yeah, except that that touchdown was overturned; the Jets settled for a field goal and ultimately lost the game. While a completely deserved roughing-the-passer penalty on Jets’ defensive end Mike Pennel in the final minutes played a role in New York not being able to make a comeback, even I have to agree that they were totally robbed on that touchdown play. Netflix Users
Netflix is giving you a great gift for Christmas – a price increase!
The streaming service actually announced back in October that they would be hiking prices, but to add insult to injury, they are letting lots of subscribers know about the price hike that will kick in on Christmas Day over Thanksgiving weekend. According to Mashable,
The service issues a warning individually to users via email and on the app at least 30 days ahead of time. For users who pay the 25th of every month, that meant finding out about it on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend and being charged the new price on Christmas this year.
Adding insult to injury, Netflix sent that joyous information on Thanksgiving weekend without bothering to say they were thankful for their subscribers:
Thankfully, I won’t be getting one of these emails since I use my best friend’s sisters account. [via Mashable]
Alabama
I bet you all thought I was going to talk about Alabama getting smacked in the Iron Bowl by Auburn here, but I love my dear friend Taylor too much to re-open that wound this Monday morning. Instead, let’s talk Alabama basketball.
Yes, Alabama has a basketball team (who knew?) and they were involved in one of the weirdest college basketball games ever on Saturday evening. It’s a long story, but the TL;DR version is that Alabama was playing Minnesota at the Barclays Center in NYC on Saturday when a brawl during a play after a double technical in the second half led to the entire Crimson Tide bench being ejected from the game. Meaning that they had exactly five players to finish out the game…until one of them fouled out and the other one rolled his ankle. So ‘Bama played the rest of the game 5 on 3.
Even funnier? This.
And yes, Minnesota wound up winning, but only by five points. [via SI.com]
The President
I try not to include anything too political in this column, but the celeb responses to 45’s tweet regarding Time magazine’s Person of the Year are way too funny to ignore:
Lance Bass for the win! .
1. If Netflix going up $1-$2 ruins your day you should probably cancel because you’re poor.
2. I want the President and every other celebrity to stop tweeting. Just make movies and play sports or whatever.
3. Hope you and everyone had a wonderful holiday!
That’s the second time this season ASJ has caught a touchdown pass that was obviously a catch and probably would’ve won the Jets the game that got overturned (the other being against your Pats, Jenna). Guy can’t catch a break.
Mariah is so under appreciated for her talent and looks. Her music should be praised like Taylor Swift’s and her looks should be modeled on the Victoria Secret runway
To be almost 50, she can still get it. And I’ll fight anyone who disagrees with that opinion.
