Houston, this is it. Tonight is the night. Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers after knocking out both the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. That is some Hollywood movie script shit. It doesn’t get any better.
After being swept by the White Sox in 2005, three consecutive 100-loss seasons, and countless unwatchable dumpster fire games, we finally have our team of destiny. This is the squad, and the timing couldn’t be better.
Hurricane Harvey parked and pissed on our city for days in an unprecedented natural disaster. But we’re still here. Tens of thousands lost their homes and everything they had to floodwaters. But we’re still here. It’s been a tough couple of months to say the least. But we’re still fucking here.
They said the Astros were too young and too inexperienced to make a real run. But we’re still here. They said Verlander would let us down when push came to shove. But we’re still here. They said Springer couldn’t hack it on the big stage after game one. But we’re still here. They said Altuve was too short. But we’re still here. Choosing someone from our bullpen is basically playing Russian roulette. But we’re still fucking here.
Tonight is for everyone still trying to pick up the pieces. Tonight is for every Houstonian who lived and died and never got to see the Astros win even one World Series game. Tonight is for all the Yao Ming injuries, every first round exit, every Matt Schaub pick-six, every Brock Osweiler pass that landed 10 feet out of bounds, every Albert Pujols heartbreaking homer, for every season that ended in disappointment. The city of Houston stood up and showed its true colors in the wake of Harvey, and this Astros team has been standing right there with us. Tonight will be no different. Tonight is for Screwston. Tonight is for H-Town. It’s time to earn history.
Soak in every moment. Enjoy every swing of the bat. Cherish every pitch. Because shit like this doesn’t happen often, as you know all too well. This shit is special. This team is special. This city is special. So crack a cold one in an attempt to take the edge off, throw on a rally cap or toss in a rally dip or do whatever it is you do when necessary during the game, and have a blast watching with your friends and family.
This is Houston. This is our time. This is Game 7. This is it.
LET’S GO ASTROS. .
As a die-hard Giants fan and since my girlfriend’s family is from Houston, I will be chanting “Beat LA!” at the TV as loudly as I can tonight.
May the baseball Gods be with the Astros.
the biggest regret of my life could be accepting an invite to watch this game at ross bolen’s house
If they win, lose, or either way?
That Pujols HR hasn’t landed yet. You know the one I’m talking about. #pray4bradlidge
I think about how long I’ve cheered for this team. Then I think about how long my dad has cheered for this team. It’s a great day in Houston. GO ASTROS
Amen. After they won last night my dad welled up with tears in his eyes and talked about how his late father brought him to Colt .45 games back in the early 60’s. Nothing will ever beat this feeling right now, watching the Astros win their 1st World Series with my dad right there beside me, in a house that that neither of us live in due to still being displaced from our homes because of Harvey. Those guys on the Astros will never know how much of an impact their run has made on us fans who have had very little to be excited about these past 2 months. It still doesn’t feel real at all.
P.S. great article, Bill.
When I was 18, I finally moved to San Francisco. Two years later, my beloved Giants won the World Series. Then won two more. Now, after two years of living in Houston, my wife’s beloved Astros won the World Series. Not saying that if I move to your city, your team takes it, but… contact me for rates and availability.
feel free to come to san diego
took Houston +550 to win the WS like 4 months ago. this is it.
CALLED IT
This is mean to say and I would have been devastated had the Cubs lost game 7 last year but part of me wants Houston to lose to see your meltdown. But another part wants them to win so you experience the joy. Good luck tonight, Billy Boy.
I think if they lose Ross will burn the entirety of Grandex to the ground
Fingers crossed this dumpster fire gets burned down!
so hyped for this game and i’m not even a fan
Native Kansas Citian, current Houstonian, and I may cry again tonight if the Stros pull it out. (That’s what she said)
