I know it’s only September, but when you’re as big of a fan of Christmas as I am, it’s really never too early to start getting excited about the season of giving. Ever since 1997, one question has kept me up at night. Lying there in my bed tossing and turning, I’ve spent hours that I’ll never get back trying to figure out where Hanson went wrong after the release of “MMMBop.” Why didn’t they find any commercial success following that record? Did Isaac, Taylor, and Zak find that being famous was just too much pressure? These are the questions that I haven’t been able to get an answer to until now. And if you can’t remember who these guys are, let me refresh your memory real quick.
I think I’ve finally figured out why they couldn’t duplicate “MMMBop.” You see, right after Middle of Nowhere (their first studio album) was released, Hanson was rushed into recording their first holiday album, aptly titled Snowed In. It had its fair share of bangers and was the best-selling holiday album for 1997 in the United States. But as we all know, Hanson fell into relative obscurity after this. They’ve released several albums since ’97 to little or no fanfare, but I think their newest one, Wintery Mix (which will be released in 2017) is going to get them back in the high life again, just like Steve Winwood said. Think about it. Everyone loves Christmas and people buy on impulse around that time of year. If you don’t think Hanson is going to come out with a heater of a single from this album then you don’t know the pop music industry. They’ll get everyone fired up with a really good single and then people will be buying the album as a stocking stuffer left and right. Boom, problem solved. Hanson is popular again.
If you can’t get stoked about a Hanson Christmas album, then I don’t think you have a cheerful bone in your body. This could go down as the best boy band Christmas album ever made, even surpassing *NSYNC’s “Home For Christmas.” Look at how much fun my guys Taylor, Ike, and Zak are having in the studio.
They’re in pre-production right now for the album, and I know it’s ridiculous to announce a Christmas album that isn’t going to be released until sometime in October or November of 2017, but Hanson has always been one of those “what if” bands for me. So much talent that was squandered because of silly conflicts between labels and managers. Anyways, since Hanson doesn’t have anything available as of yet from their new album and I’ve just played a metaphorical game of “just the tip” with everyone’s Christmas boners, enjoy this one on me, folks.

I can’t explain why, but it really gets my goat that this is about a Christmas record that won’t be out for over a year. Anyway, Christmas time rules.
Just going to put this out there: their “Silent Night Medley” is one of the greatest Christmas arrangements of the last 50 years – and if you disagree, you don’t love Jesus.
No way it tops the Twisted Sister Christmas album.
