There’s something about hipsters. They love being known as “makers” or “influencers” or “builders.” They love to doing things “intentionally” and hone their “craft” publicly for all of us to see.
Luckily, because most of these “tastemakers” aren’t as self-aware as they pride themselves on being, they’re an easy target to make fun of. We’ve seen it with the artisanal wood video, and the Socality Barbie Instagram account. They’ve created a stereotype of themselves that’s easy to spot from a mile away, as evidenced by the most recent parody video, The Maker.
Everything about it is perfectly hilarious in every maker-shaming way. The backdrop of the Pacific Northwest. His rolled pants with eccentric socks over his weathered bucks. The fog over the lake where he’s skipping stones in a plaid, wool coat. The slow piano playing over his commentary. “Sports players.” The reminiscing of the father he lost. His definitely-not-prescription glasses. His “respect” for the bread. His attention to detail for the toast. And especially (especially) when he takes his flannel off only to expose that he’s wearing the exact same flannel underneath it. Just everything.
As much as everyone hates hipsters, I hope they never go away if only for the sake of these parodies. .
