For most guys Sunday = Football. If you are single, then you have the luxury of sitting on your couch all day without interruption. However, for the men out there that are in a relationship, this may not always be the case. If you’re lucky, then your girlfriend either A) loves football as much as you do or B) lets you do whatever you want. This is for the guys who are not so fortunate.
1. Reduce Your Game Watching
The most important thing to understand here is that you are no longer single. We have all heard the old cliché “happy wife, happy life.” You don’t need to watch every game the way you used to. Think about it. The NFL now has games on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. If you try to watch everything, you are taking 3 days of the week to do something you like. So unless you are prepared to use those other 4 on her, just cut down your consumption. Continue to follow your favorite team and watch any big games when you can. There is always SportsCenter and NFL network to keep you up to date on everything else going on in the league.
2. Make Her A Fan Of Your Team
If you’re lucky, your girlfriend is relatively oblivious to all things football. This will make it easy to convert her to your squad. If she’s one of those girls who is a “fan” because of an attractive player, you need to make it clear that is no longer acceptable, unless that attractive player is on your team. The last thing you want is for her to be a Patriots fan because of Tom Brady. Making her a fan of your team will allow you to easily watch your favorite team without any quarrels. This also makes her feel like you are including her in something you are interested in, which is an added bonus.
3. Be Patient When Explaining The Game
Pretend you’re the math teacher at a bad high school in a bad neighborhood, and be patient. Understand that football is a very complex game, and it’s going to take time for her to learn and understand all of the various aspects. Be prepared to be asked the most outlandish and idiotic questions known to man. “Why do they stop the clock when they go out of bounds?” Just answer the question as best you can and move on.
4. Spend Time With Her On Saturday
The easiest way to watch football uninterrupted on Sunday is to spend time with your woman on Saturday. Yeah, you might have to forfeit your precious 12-hour college football binge, but relationships are all about sacrifice. If you’re lucky enough to live on the east coast, you have plenty of time to even squeeze in a morning activity before the 1 o’clock games. Your girlfriend will be less concerned with you spending a few hours watching the game if you just hit her with the classic dinner, movie, and quality D the night before.
5. Sports Bars Are Your Friend
Girls love going out. Make Sunday into an event. Take her out to Buffalo Wild Wings or a sports bar. It’s hard to nag when you’ve got Honey BBQ wings in your mouth.
6. Be an NFL quarterback.
Sacrifice college football on Saturday for NFL football? No thanks
Your intentions were pure for writing this…but when you lead off with “watch less NFL football”…nah brah.
Why is the woman driving?
7. Have her join a pay fantasy football league. Gambling is a hell of a drug.
If she really hates football she just needs to go out for some bottomless mimosas
That guy’s face: “it’s all going according to plan”
