As I’ve previously stated, pants suck. One of the great things about being a woman is that we can avoid them, particularly when it’s time to get dressed up. We can put on a skirt or a dress and look perfectly respectable without trapping our legs in some scratchy fabric. But for guys, there isn’t a substitute for the suit, you poor bastards. A recent study showed that wearing a suit makes guys feel bad ass, but it must be hell knowing that for every business meeting you have to attend or wedding you’re dragged to, you have to not only put on pants, but a shirt and jacket, and god forbid, a tie. But what if there was actually an alternative?
Last year, the internet was abuzz over the crowdsourcing campaign for the Suitsy, which is essentially pajamas masquerading as a suit. Now, there’s still pants involved, which is a downer, but in this case, they are made of a comfy, soft fabric and attached to both the shirt and tie, recreating the cozy cocoon of those one piece PJs you loved as a child. Of course, the main question then was “Is anyone actually dumb enough to mistake an adult sized onesie for an actual suit?” Well, one blogger took on the cause of investigating this pressing inquiry, and found out the answer was a resounding yes.
Greg Ferenstein, of The Ferenstein Wire, took the Suitsy on the road to test it out. He first wore the getup around San Francisco for a week, and no one seemed to notice. But then again, it’s San Francisco, so a dude in an adult onesie isn’t exactly out of place. So as a grand finale to his experiment, he wore the Suitsy to the one place you’d expect people to be able to tell the difference between a good suit and a fancy version of a slanket: a rally for Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul. And again, no one noticed. According to Ferenstein, when he revealed his suit was actually a one-piece made of pajama material, “Gasps of disbelief echoed around me as if Chris Angel had just made a statue of Ronald Reagan appear out of thin air.”
So maybe this is the answer for you, my guy friends. If it’s good enough to fool a room of well-heeled Republicans, it’s probably good enough to fool your boss. You may never been lucky enough to be able to go bare legged to work, but maybe the Suitsy is the next best thing..
