An R. Kelly Song For Every Day Of The Week

Sunday
Song: “I Wish”

It’s a bittersweet day. On one hand, you’re still within the realms of the weekend. On the other hand, your night is essentially squandered by the fact that the following morning is Monday. You want to enjoy the day and the moment at hand, but you can’t help but reflect on the lost opportunities and regrets of not doing more things the night before. You wished for more. You thought maybe you’d get it, but to no avail. The light, melodic, sorrowful beat encapsulates everything that Sunday is. Folks don’t know the half of it.

Monday
Song: “Trapped In The Closet”

Mondays are the worst. The week is just starting out, and they’re usually accompanied with early mornings where you’re reluctant to wake up and get going. You have to do more work than you expect. Sometimes it’s unclear what you’ll have to do throughout the week, people throw curveballs at you, and more than anything, you just feel trapped. R.K. just GETS that. Sometimes life and circumstance get to you and you find yourself trapped in a stranger’s closet. This 25+ part musical soap opera, aside from being a colossally awesome and long-winded distraction from the awfulest of days, is also a surprisingly relatable hit about the frustrations of being stuck where you don’t want to be. Shit. Think. Shit. Think. Shit. Quick, put me in the closet.

Tuesday
Song: “Same Girl”

This day got you straight twisted. It’s deceivingly normal, but then it throws you for a loop. It’s no Monday, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a tough day itself. You kick back to chill with your boys only to find you’ve been doubled-up on. Bamboozled. But it’s no matter to you, because with their help (and the directions in this song) you can get through anything, just like an early-entry in the days of the week. Prank calls. Confusing, tricky women. Wearing suits and sunglasses indoors. If it’s fly as hell, this song will teach you how to accomplish it–and take Tuesday by storm.

Wednesday
Song: “I Believe I Can Fly”

Hump day: the day you need a little uplift to get through. Luckily for you, “I Believe I Can Fly” will get you there. Deeply emotional and heavily resonating, it’s a ’90s staple and modern classic that can brighten up ANY day. If you can’t get on board with the sheer spiritual healing of the soaring strings and children’s chorus, you can at least revel in the potent “Space Jam” nostalgia the tune inevitably evokes. You will shed tears and you will love it.

Thursday
Song: “World’s Greatest”

Continuing the spiritual healing of “I Believe I Can Fly” and bringing home the support you need, Kelly goes full on inspirational in this emotional ballad. It’s that little bit of hope when your back is against the wall. This song gives you the little bit of something you need to get you through the week–you’re almost over the hump and to quittin’ time. Let R.K. take you there. You’re worth it.

Friday
Song: “Bump N’ Grind”

Thank God. Time to hit that happy hour and wild out. Your mind might tell you no, but your body will definitely tell you yes. Follow that instinct, because after a long week, you shouldn’t see nothin’ wrong with it.

Saturday
Song: “Ignition (Remix)”

Could it be anything else? This is hands down the best day of the week with hands down the best R.K. banger. Energetic, iconic, and party-inciting, “Ignition” brings the fun home and is a welcomed release of the seriousness of the week. It’s been a tough week, so kick back and go ahead and break ‘em off with a little preview of the remix. Because after the show it’s the after party, and after the party it’s the hotel lobby. It’s the freakin’ weekend, baby. You’re about to have you some fun.
