A Clueless Uber Driver Bragged To Grammy Award Winning Singer Lorde That He Had Just Dropped Off A “Celebrity Passenger,” Clearly Isn’t A Lorde Fan

For some celebrities, venturing out into the public sounds like a nightmare. The constant barrage of cell phone cameras and autograph requests must be completely irritating and embarrassing. I’m sure it drives even the sanest celebrities to the brink of a total meltdown.

And then there are major celebrities who aren’t as easily recognizable. Take, for instance, this hilarious encounter between a clueless Uber driver and his Grammy award-winning passenger, Lorde.

This poor guy probably had some C-level celebrity before Lorde, too. Could have been a life-changing moment for him had he wised up a bit. Every Uber opportunity is a networking opportunity, especially in UberPools.

For what it’s worth, Lorde doesn’t strike me as pompous, arrogant celebrity. She just saw the humor in the whole thing too, I guess.

The trials and tribulations of an LA Uber driver. Gotta constantly have your head on a swivel for celebs.

I drove for Uber once, about two years ago, for three weeks in Austin. If there is one thing I learned from my experience, it’s how to correctly socially interact with a stranger. Never lead the conversation, unless it’s abundantly clear the pax (don’t mean to get too inside baseball, but that’s what we in the biz call passengers) is in a good mood and wants to chat. The one exception I can think of is if you are driving a bunch of horny moms from a dance club to a hotel. If that is the case, do not further conversation no matter how hard they push for it. Even if one of them sticks a $20 down your shirt. Just keep your eyes on the road.

I’m not a big “celeb gossip” guy, but I thought this story was pretty funny. Maybe I’ll give Lorde another shot on my Spotify.
